SWSLHD 9th Annual Patient Safety Seminar & Quality AwardsThe SWSLHD 9th Annual Patient Safety Seminar & Quality Awards was held at Liverpool Hospital on Thursday 19th September to a capacity crowd. It was an engaging morning with valuable insights, touching stories and innovative projects all centred around the theme, "Transforming the Experience of Vulnerable Patients". The presentation of the SWSLHD Quality Awards 2019 kicked off with a video montage showcasing the diversity and calibre of this year's submissions (a record 87 in total). The awards recognised excellence in clinical, quality and research endeavours, across twelve different categories:

Prevention Centre Panel Session: Hate as a Public Health IssueDate: Monday, 30th September, 2019 The Prevention Centre is hosting visiting public health expert, Professor Sandro Galea, one of America's leading voices in health and society. Professor Sandro Galea is an author, epidemiologist, physician and Dean of the Boston University School of Public Health. The objective of the session is to create a more critically reflective conversation about hate and how to redress it in our society. Working with MBS and PBS DataDate: Friday, 1st November, 2019 The Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) and Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) are valuable data resources with untapped potential to identify and monitor patterns of health service use and inform health service planning. The Sax Institute invites you to attend this seminar on working with MBS and PBS data, which will provide insights into the multiple ways these datasets can be used. Yarramundi Postgraduate Research ScholarshipWestern Sydney University is excited to announce a new scholarship program to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students wanting to study a higher degree research degree at WSU. The scholarships will be awarded to PhD candidates where the students will receive $50,000 per year, for three years to support living costs. Tuition fees will be supported by an Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) Fees Offset. Applications close 6th October 2019. Lifestyle Programmes in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Communities in SydneyThe Diabetes Obesity and Metabolism Translational Research Unit (DOMTRU) is offering a research scholarship to a highly motivated PhD candidate to work within DOMTRU to research the relationship between lifestyle, lifestyle change and the risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes among adults and children from culturally and linguistically diverse communities in Sydney. The project is funded by Western Sydney University. Domestic candidates will receive a tax-free stipend of $30,000 per annum for up to 3 years to support living costs, supported by the Research Training Program (RTP) Fee Offset. Applications close 30th September 2019. RECRUITING VOLUNTEERS | Knee Osteoarthritis StudyResearchers from NICM Health Research Institute at Western Sydney University are seeking participants for a study assessing if a herbal medication can reduce pain from knee osteoarthritis. The study will involve taking medication morning night for 12 weeks, 3 visits to a study centre at Campbelltown or Westmead campus, filling out questionnaires, having some physical tests done and safety blood tests. You will also be asked to record in a diary your intake of the medications. You will reimbursed 3 x $30 for travel expenses to the campus should you be eligible for the study.
