NOTICES:*Safety of our Students: It is important for the safety of our students and local residents that all parents who drive to school in the mornings and afternoons are adhering to the road rules. We ask you all to consider the following: - Do not speed on our surrounding roads as many families walk to and from school and this compromises their safety.
- Do not park on the zig zag lines at the front of the school as this impacts on our students safely crossing the road.
- Do not park across the driveways of our neighbours, as this will disrupt access to their private property. As a school we suggest walking or catching public transport to school to where possible. If you have to drive, there is often ample parking spaces a little further away from the school, which may also alleviate the congestion and stress of the morning. We thank you for your cooperation on this matter and your consideration of our local community. **The 2018/2019 Academic Year begins on Monday 10th September 2018.***Shoes and clothing donations please! If you have any shoes/plimsolls/wellies or tights and socks
that your child has grown out of, please can you bring them along to the Reception classrooms. Thank you!
****Equipment - Parents please ensure your child comes into school with all the equipment and food they will need for the day. The front office will not be responsible for taking things to classroom as this is disruptive to children's learning.
Fun times on Newham FarmThis week De Coubertin and Parks class have been investigating farm animals! We took a trip on the DLR to find out more about the animals we have been learning about in class. We got to meet chickens, a donkey, cows, horses, pigs, goats, alpacas and sheep.
We even got to stroke them.
Ta1k Detectives This week in our PBL session we looked at what makes a good discussion. We were put into small groups and listened in to the discussions that children were having in our class. We used a discussion guideline to see if we were giving eye contact, speaking in full sentences and building on each others points. Everyone did a great
job!
How the Leopard got it's SpotsThis week Year 2 started planning their own innovated version of 'how the whale got its throat or how the leopard got its spots'. We worked in pairs to come up with as many different creative explanations as we could and then we sat in an onion formation to pitch our ideas to other members
of the class. The person sitting opposite us gave feedback on their favourite ideas and what we could do to build upon them. Finally, we found our partners again, discussed the feedback and came up with our final plan for the story!
Year 3 measures up.This week, as part of our measurements topic, Year 3 have been improving their scale-reading skills. As well as weighing the mass of items, the children have been finding the capacity of containers and volumes of liquids. This
required grit and expertise as it was a challenge to begin with, but they persevered and now are becoming confident at measuring. We are sure that they will be offering help with weighing ingredients in the kitchen at home very soon!
Shapes sorters!Year 4 have been deepening their understanding of 2D shapes this week. The children worked in groups to classify the shapes whilst applying their knowledge of angles, parallel and perpendicular lines. The children have also spent time investigating the types of
triangles and trying to work out if there is a limit to the amount of equilateral triangles that can fit within one equilateral triangle.

Overdue Libary Books
Please return your overdue library books! We currently have over 700 books overdue. This means that students are unable to borrow popular books. Students are allowed to borrow up to three books for a loan period of one month and can be renewed after this period should the need arise. Any books that are lost or damaged must be replaced.
