Special edition - New LGA President No Images? Click here Vol 3: Special Edition - Friday 19 October 2018 New LGA PresidentFollowing the counting of votes at Local Government House earlier today, I am pleased to announce that Tumby Bay Mayor Sam Telfer has been elected by South Australian councils as the next LGA President. I look forward to officially handing over this honour to Mayor Telfer at the conclusion of our Annual General Meeting next Friday. This was our first Presidential election in a number of years to feature a number of candidates, and I would like to thank Mayors Vickery, Burgess, Ferguson, and Parkes for also putting themselves forward and their willingness to serve. As a sector we have significant reforms we want to partner with the Government and Parliament to progress, and I am confident that Mayor Telfer and the new Board will continue to progress this work for the benefit of councils and our communities. This morning also included the counting of votes for GAROC, as well as for Spencer Gulf Cities representation on SAROC, and the membership of these bodies is listed below: South Australia Regional Organisation of Councils (SAROC)
Greater Adelaide Regional Organisation of Councils (GAROC)
Congratulations to everyone for being elected to serve a two year term commencing at the conclusion of our 2018 AGM. With the council elections just weeks away, it is possible that one or more of these members will not be re-elected to their councils. This would result in a casual vacancy with their LGA positions, which would then be filled in accordance with the LGA’s new Constitution. The next LGA Board will be comprised of the LGA President and Immediate Past President, the Chairs of SAROC and GAROC, and three other members of both SAROC and GAROC. SAROC and GAROC will meet immediately after our AGM next Friday to determine their Chairs and nominees to the LGA Board, and we will announce the membership of the LGA Board immediately afterwards to AGM delegates over lunch. This is the last weekend before postal votes are distributed and I wish every candidate all the very best with your campaigning. Please remember to treat your fellow candidates with the fairness and respect that our communities expect. LGA President Sue Clearihan For further information or to submit |
