We are committed to giving our students the necessary skills and confidence they need to contribute meaningfully to our school community and society as a whole. We foster the qualities of a leader in our students, giving them opportunity to develop their communication skills as well as their honesty, integrity, confidence, commitment, positivity, creativity and intuition. Year 6 LeadersWhilst we encourage all students in the school to view themselves as leaders, we also encourage girls to pursue more formal avenues for leadership experience during their school journey. This week I had the pleasure of attending the Year 6 Leaders Assembly and I am sure that every girl at that Assembly will do their best to encourage and inspire other Junior School students this semester. Head Prefect 2020Mrs Crisp and I have also had the opportunity to meet with each of the girls in Year 11 nominating for the position of Head Prefect for 2020. After speaking with each of these girls, I have no doubt that the voting is going to be a difficult task as any one of them would be outstanding in the role. Being BraveIn both the Junior and Senior Schools, it is wonderful to see girls of a young age willing to back themselves and explore roles that might challenge them, but also ones that will extend them and help them to grow. It is great to see our girls being brave. AISWA Aspiring Women Leaders ConferenceThis weekend PLC will host the AISWA Aspiring Women Leaders Conference, which will bring together women from schools all over Perth interested in leadership pathways in schools. This is a process that will cross four stages. The first two stages encompass the positions of the Head Girl, Deputy Head Girl and the Student Council – Academic Prefect, Service Captain, Junior/Senior School Prefect, Arts Captain, Sports Captain, Senior Boarder and Wellbeing Captain. Stage 2 is for the positions of House Captain. Stage One and TwoThe girls have already completed their applications for these stages and were able to apply for up to three positions across stages one and two. All the applicants are given the opportunity to present themselves and their suitability for these positions in an online blog which will be accessible to all the girls who are eligible to vote. A link will be emailed to all of the eligible students. The applicants for Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl will also be given the opportunity to present themselves and to discuss their applications with the Principal and Head of Senior School in a short interview. Finally, the Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl applicants will be able to address the school community at a ‘Speakers Corner’ across the first week of school and in pre-recorded interviews that will be played on Radio PLC. The applicants for Wellbeing and Service Captains will also be given the opportunity for a short interview with the Head of Service and Community Partnerships and the Director of Wellbeing. All of these positions will be selected solely on the basis of the votes submitted across the eligible school community. They are only selected on this basis. The interviews for Head Girl, Deputy Head Girl, Wellness Captain and Service Captain are used to ensure that each girl is aware of the responsibilities and the demands of the positions, but they do not form part of the selection process for the final result.
