No images? Click here Dear Friend of PLC A Message From Deputy Principal, Chris RobinsonThe Vermeersch SistersThe Vermeersch sisters, Hannah, Nikolah and Kira, grew up 85 km north-west of Esperance. They lived fun-filled lives on the family farm; riding motorbikes, playing with neighbours and enjoying Mum, Stacey's great cooking. When it came time to leave the local Scaddan Primary School, one by one, each girl packed up their belongings for the 1.5 hour flight to Perth, and started their schooling in the PLC Boarding House. From the Farm to PLCThe adjustment from a 4,600 hectare farm, to a school campus in a city of two million people, was a significant one. As was the transition from a family of six to a family of more than one hundred! All three sisters thrived in the Boarding House, but they certainly missed their Mum’s cooking. While Boarding life had its ups and downs, learning how to be independent at such a young age indelibly shaped the Vermeerschs. With their parents 650 km away, they had to plan ahead, think of their own solutions to problems and take care of their own belongings. Student to StaffA decade on, all three girls (now in their 20s) are back at PLC! This time, the big transition is from student to staff member. Hannah studied Teaching at Edith Cowan University and has just commenced as a new staff member in our Humanities Department. Prior to studying Education, she represented Australia at the 2012 London Olympics in Rowing! I have been enjoying my time as a teacher. It has been lovely getting to know the students and staff. There are some things at PLC that haven't changed, but also a lot of things which have changed! I am enjoying the new challenge and look forward to trying to make a positive impact in the students’ lives. Nikolah studied Public Relations and Marketing at Notre Dame and has been my Assistant for five years. I feel it is an honour and a privilege to work at the school that shaped who I am today. I was given this opportunity during my time at University, as I was looking for a casual job, but have since stayed here in a full-time capacity. Kira is studying Physiotherapy at Curtin and is coaching Rowing at PLC. The Vermeerschs’ story is a familiar one and is emblematic of the positive experiences PLC students have at school, and the continuing connection they feel to the PLC community. - Chris Robinson, Deputy Principal International Women's Day BreakfastDate: Monday 9 March Make A Difference Week Movie Bushfire FundraiserDate: Wednesday 11 March Farm2Fork | A Community Food EventDate: Saturday 14 March End of Term (Junior and Senior School)Date: Thursday 9 April Service OpportunitiesCooking For A Cause (Years 7 - 9)Cooking for a Cause is an opportunity for Years 7 - 9 PLC families to be involved in a Family Service Project, as part of PLC’s commitment to community and service.
