JFC Construction Update - Construction Progress - Issue 47 - 20 July 2020 CONSTRUCTION UPDATERead our construction update to see what has been achieved and what is coming up on the Karangahape Road Enhancements project. Symonds Street to Queen StreetUpcoming works - what to expect:
Upcoming night works what to expect: Queen Street corner near Amnesty International: temporary traffic lights These night works are taking place in the evening due to high pedestrian and vehicle numbers during the day as changes to the traffic lights are required. A change in lane layout will be required while this work is taking place, however vehicle and footpath access will be maintained around the work. On Wednesday night, 22 July night work will take place at the traffic island build out near Amnesty International. The existing traffic light will be removed and put onto a drum so that work on the kerbline can continue. This work will only take one night to complete. Please note there will be intermittent medium to high volume noise, i.e. grinding but we will endeavour to have noisy works completed by 10:30pm. Upper Queen Street to Mercury LaneUpcoming works - what to expect:
Mercury Lane to West TerraceUpcoming works - what to expect:
West Terrace temporary road closure for speed table construction: Work to construct the speed table across West Terrace is under action. Due to the narrow nature of West Terrace a temporary road closure is being maintained. There is no vehicle access to West Terrace via Karangahape Road for the duration of this work which is expected to continue up to mid August 2020. Vehicle access is being provided for residents only via Galatos Street. Pedestrian access from Karangahape Road to West Terrace is unavailable during working hours. However in the evenings, we will reduce our working space/fencing and make pedestrian access available. During the day, the alternative pedestrian access to Karangahape Road from West Terrace is maintained via East Street and Galatos Street. OverbridgeUpcoming works - what to expect:
Hereford Street to Howe StreetUpcoming works - what to expect:
CYCLEWAY - SOFT OPENING:During the works, sections of the newly constructed cycleway have remained closed for safety reasons as they did not link up along the street. However, as works are progressing, we can facilitate a soft opening of the cycleway now instead of opening it fully at the end of the project. In conjunction with AT and Bike Auckland we have and will continue to open sections of the cycleway - there will be temporary signage and road markings to help guide cyclists on along the cycleway. Please follow these signs and dismount when required While this "soft opening" will allow cyclists to utilise sections of the cycleway that do not have active construction in them, it is important to note that construction work will take place later at some of these ‘open’ cycleway sections to finalise construction. In these instances, we will have the relevant traffic management in place to indicate these work locations, but we will endeavour to maintain cycleway access. Temporary road markings are completed on the eve of the opening. The following are planned sections to be opened - dates will be confirmed in the upcoming newsletters:
