Issue #1

Spring term

Welcome

Welcome to our 4th newsletter of the academic year.  With Christmas and New Year firmly behind us and with 2018 now in full swing, we hope that your new year's resolution can be to get 'closer to the evidence'.  Here at West Somerset Research School, we are committed to helping teachers and school leaders from across Somerset and the South West to become more 'evidence-informed' in their practice and decision-making.

We're excited to be running a Maths Teaching Roadshow next week in Bridgwater and also to launching the 3 day 'Leading Learning' training course in March.  Full details can be found below but do get in touch to find out more.  Also on the horizon are opportunities for professional learning related to early years education and maximising the impact of teaching assistants.  An exciting year ahead!

MAXIMISING THE IMPACT OF TEACHING ASSISTANTS

Teaching assistants are often not used as effectively as they could be, and schools miss out on a large amount of potential support and expertise from these valuable members of staff. To help address this, Research Schools are running training programmes to help schools make the best use of teaching assistants, using guidance from the EEF’s Teaching and Learning Toolkit.

You can find out when your local Research School is running a programme by visiting the Training and Events section of their website. Here are some of the programmes starting soon:
