This Challenge sees students applying their maths skills and racing virtual cars around virtual race tracks. These challenges develop an understanding of STEM subjects through hands-on experience. They have been busy measuring the features of the tracks using rulers, protractors and even pieces of string, these measurements are then scaled up to represent the actual measurements of their chosen race track. This data will then be used to programme the cars to ensure they are not only fast around the track but also safe! We are looking forward to our first race! Poetry SlamYear 5 have been taking part in a Poetry Slam. Here are a few of the fantastic poems. Alyssa - personificationThe boat ran across the ocean like an Olympic race. The ship washed away the deck like a Tsunami. Shahad – ChocolateI like chocolate. Chocolate is my favourite. Chocolate is delicious. Chocolate is amazing. Chocolate is yummy. Chocolate makes me hungry. Chocolate cake. Chocolate ice-cream. Chocolate bar. Chocolate, chocolate, CHOCOLATE. Shyanne – Mama SaidMama said gold money is like a drug. To me it is like a warm hug. Mama said money helps pay the bills. But to some people is it like a pill. I came home from school I said Mama. It would be cool to have money. Mama started laughing saying you’re a fool. Daddy came through the door and said. I lost my job we are poor. I had a dream that we were rich. But that was just a stitch. Isabel – DogsA dog can rob. Bats and mops. They can drag. Bags and rags. A dog can run. And have some fun. Some have dens. Some are ten. Some are big. Others like to dig. Some wear hats, Others hate cats. The dogs we meet May sniff our feet. But watch out Before they run out. Roses are red, Violets are blue, Some dogs are funny But some are surprisingly cute. Kayden – VolcanoesFrom heat blast to boulders the fun will never last an eruption. The town come so fast but all the civilians in the town were turned to stone and the town was abandoned and indeed alone. This mysterious town was called Pompeii. It was a wasteland after that day. The story was truly tragic even if you think it is a lie. But even though volcanoes are more than meet the eye. Ella – Sizzling SausagesSizzling sausages, sizzling sausages they are one of a kind. OH they make me laugh they make they make me laugh before I drink my wine. When I took the first bite the heat kicked in SAUSAGES, SAUSAGES, ping, ping, ping. When I took the second bite I licked the plate. I ate and ate and ate. Sizzling sausages are flaming hot They burn my lips at 6 o’clock. They’re crispy, crunchy an scrumptious too. They remind me of my favourite shop. The shop down the block called rock and pops. It makes the biggest yummiest HOT, HOT DOGS. Adam – personification The apple waltzed off the tree, making the blossom laugh. The beefy burger leaped out of the flame oven. The sticky sock strode along the jazzy bedroom.
