Update on COVID-19 government support 

The Government has announced a second lockdown that will start on Thursday 5th November. Recognising the severe impact that these new restrictions will have on businesses, a number of additional support measures have been outlined earlier this week. Our update on Government COVID-19 support covers:-

• The job retention scheme (JRS) extension
• Self employed income support scheme (SEISS)
• Government backed loans
• Mortgage payment holidays
• English business grants

Working from home tax relief

With many more employees working from home again, because of the coronavirus pandemic, it is worth remembering that you might be eligible to claim tax relief direct from HMRC.

From 6 April 2020, employers have been able to pay employees up to £6 a week tax-free to cover additional costs if they have had to work from home.

Employees, who have not received the working from home expenses payment direct from their employer, can apply to receive the tax relief direct from HMRC. Read more

Transition period ends 31st December 2020

With the end of the transition period fast approaching, any business that trades with the EU should familiarise themselves with the changes which are due to be implemented from 1st January 2021.

Irrespective of whether the UK and the EU reach an agreement on future relations, there will be significant changes to how businesses both import and export goods between the UK and EU Member States. Read more
