Waterlow Hall

The Waterlow Hall project marks the completion of a 10 year master plan to transform the senior school at South Hampstead. But it will also be the foundation from which our ambitions for the future will grow. 'Towards and Beyond 150’ outlines our strategy to ensure that South Hampstead stays at the absolute forefront of education as we approach our 150th anniversary in 2026.

The support for the campaign over the past two months has been critical in building the confidence that we can reach the £3,000,000 fundraising target. Our ambition is that everyone gets involved in whatever way they can, so read on to see how you can take part.

So many thanks to all the staff and girls who helped to demonstrate just what could be achieved in a transformed Waterlow Hall with this month's spectacular performance of Into the Woods.

Keep an eye out for our campaign mailing which will be coming though your letter box in March.  We have 'Carbon Balanced' the production to make this communication as environmentally responsible as possible. If you aren't interested in the content then we urge you to pass it on to someone who may be, to ensure that our effort and, more importantly, the literature is not wasted.

'Thank you for shortening this exhausting process' - so writes one of our Shine a Light girls.  They have been busy designing postcards, swimming lengths and thinking up some brilliant ideas about fundraising and so far have raised over £3,500 for Waterlow Hall through their Shine a Light appeal.

We can't wait to see what the Junior School girls come up with for their 'Shine a Light' postcard competition. Don't forget to encourage your daughter to create a design ready for judging at the end of half term.

As we launch our public campaign for the Waterlow Hall and welcome the spring, we embark on a month of wonderful music concerts from our choirs, orchestras, jazz bands and ensembles. Please join us to celebrate the breadth and diversity of music and performance at South Hampstead as we seek to create a fitting venue. 

It was fantastic to have pupils speaking so passionately about their experiences at South Hampstead and what the Waterlow Hall project will do for them at our Campaign Board Receptions.

Our Steinway Model D Grand Piano was donated to the school specifically to be housed in the new Waterlow Hall. It features over 12,0000 individual parts and weighs almost half a ton. Over 90% of concert artists choose to perform on Steinway Grand Pianos and we are building a special storage room at the back of the hall to keep it in the very best condition possible.

A fundraising event bringing together some of our most esteemed alumnae and parent musicians to create a magical afternoon of music. 

Tickets will go on sale for the Waterlow Gala in March but we have a limited number of 'Patrons' Tables' available and you can register your interest in these now. There is also a chance to win a free ticket if you can guess the venue for the dinner and don't forget to 'Keep the date'.

‘Music and art are my passions and South Hampstead was the foundation of those passions. I think the new Waterlow Hall will be a fabulous addition to the school and a real opportunity to build and showcase the pupils’ abilities in all these areas.’

It takes many hands to make sure that we keep everyone informed and, most importantly, enthused about the campaign. Sara in reprographics was a printing demon last week, making sure that every night, every seat at Into the Woods had its own Shine a Light postcard.

We are looking forward to welcoming back many of our alumnae for their Spring Reunion. This is also an opportunity for us to share our plans for the Waterlow Hall and seek help as we plan for our 150th anniversary.
