DCD Visits Royal Ballet School  3rd Year Students

As part of our pioneering partnership with The Royal Ballet School, we delivered a workshop with the third year students this month. We previously visited the same cohort of students in their first and second years, with the aim of supporting them to prepare for their eventual, inevitable, career transition.

The students spent the session examining the challenges that dancers face when approaching career transition, and coming up with top tips for professional dancers to prepare for and overcome these challenges.

We’re so grateful to DCD supported dancer and visual artist Melissa Spiccia who took the time to come and talk to the students about her own transition.

A visit to the second year students is due on Wednesday 18th November.

Our partnership with The Royal Ballet School is designed to develop happy, confident, motivated professional dancers who are prepared for professional life.

There's Still Time to Support This Mystery Lady!

There's still time to donate to DCD Retrained Dancer Simon Harper's fabulous fundraising appeal for DCD, performing as a mystery lady with Les Ballets Trockedero de Monte Carlo at the Wales Millennium Centre last month. Thanks so much Simon!

DCD and BBC Young Dancers at Rambert's Opening Night

The 2015 BBC Young Dancer Finalists attended DCD Contributing Company Rambert’s opening night at Sadler’s Wells this month as part of DCD’s partnership with BBC Young Dancer, where they enjoyed fantastic performances of Transfigured Night, The 3 Dancers and the celebrated Rooster.

The finalists were lucky enough to meet with Rambert’s Brenda Lee Grech before of the show, who spoke to them about her career in dance.

DCD are providing an aftercare package designed specifically for the six BBC Young Dancer Competition finalists which consists of individual coaching sessions and group workshops.

Our aim is to ensure that these young dancers are fully supported to investigate and realise their potential and to explore, share, dare and dream about their future.

DCD Hosts Dance Teachers Mentoring Day

We were very excited to welcome 15 participants in DCD and Dance UK’s Dance Teaching Mentoring Programme through our doors at the Transition Centre this month.

The programme is organised in partnership with Dance UK as well as National Dance Teachers Association and Youth Dance England. It recognises the huge importance of teachers within the dance sector and aims to develop the next generation of teaching leaders within the industry. The 20 dance teachers chosen to take part in the programme were nominated by their peers as future leaders.

The atmosphere of the day long induction session at the DCD transition centre was electric – full of rich conversation, inspiration and participants excited to be able to connect to a like-minded network of teachers and dance professionals.

This diverse group of teachers and dance artists bring with them a wealth of experience, skills, knowledge, expertise, insight and talent.

Congratulations again on to all the participants selected for the Dance Teachers Mentoring Programme and very best of luck!
