A month into the new year, 2023 is shaping up to be an exciting year for the company. We are placing ongoing focus on continuous improvement in the ESG space, continuing to evolve the ways in which we go about our business. This is not only for the benefit of our own staff and their families, but for our customers and the wider community. It is the responsibility of every business to improve environmental performance and while some initiatives may seem like small steps, it is the sum of all parts that matter. That includes operating in cleaner, greener and more socially responsible ways and Elastomers Australia continues to innovate and improve in every aspect of our business operations. Our safety performance mirrors that of the broader mining industry – we are firm in our commitment to zero harm for everyone involved and will continue to look at ways to reduce and ultimately eliminate risk. Our joint venture with Novum Energy Australia to recycle rubber is progressing with testing underway and results expected soon. At the same time, plans are moving forward on the establishment of recycling facilities. We will bring you more news on this initiative in coming months. In 2022, our commitment to building a strong workplace culture was recognised with Elastomers Australia receiving the Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame Award for Leader in Diversity and Inclusion. We continue our focus on building high-performing teams in all areas in which we operate. With the right people who have a passion for the industry, we are well placed to continue to grow and achieve great results with a constant focus of delivering exceptional outcomes for our clients. This year has the potential to be transformative for the company and we look forward to sharing further updates with you throughout 2023. Pat Caputo Elastomers steps up to raise awareness for breast and prostate cancerMore than 24,200 males were diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2022 and sadly one of the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia. It is estimated that more than 20,600 people were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022. Being the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia, it is estimated that one in 8 females and one in 668 males will be diagnosed by the time they are 85. The shocking reality is that these figures aren't going to go away either. Last month, Elastomers Australia joined forces with Thiess Mining by donating pink and blue screen decks at its Lake Vermont Mine to raise awareness and much needed funds to Breast and Prostate Cancer Association of QLD inc. The organisation exists to support rural, regional, and remote communities and the people faced with breast or prostate cancer. The Association is voluntary and supported by community donations and the Association’s fundraising activities. Due to not receiving any state or federal government financial support, it relies heavily on donors to enable the dedicated team to keep delivering obligation and purpose. Elastomers Australia East Coast Solutions Manager Jason Clifford said he was proud to support the cause and an opportunity to shine a light on breast and prostate cancer and its impact on those affected by the disease in our community. Elastomers sign on as a major sponsor for Monash Children's Hospital GalaThis month, Monash Health Foundation hosted it's annual Monash Children’s Hospital Gala at Palladium at Crown in Melbourne, receiving unwavering support from all those who attended. The foundation exceeded its fundraising target of $1 million and raised over $1.2 million. In honour of the children in Monash Children Hospital's care, the foundation is renowned for making the gala truly magical, creating an evening people will remember for a long time to come. After a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the need to raise funds is bigger than ever. Elastomers Australia was proud to sponsor the evening and celebrate the incredible work of the hospital. Elastomers Australia General Manager Paul Lane said he was delighted to support the Monash Children's Hospital Gala which plays a crucial role in improving the lives of the children in the community. "It was an evening enjoyed by all with proceeds going directly to the hospital and work in developing lifesaving stem-cell therapies for premature babies," Paul said. "To top off a great evening, I also managed to score a brand new Toyota!," he said. Since the original event in 2017, the gala has raised over $2 million for Monash Children’s Hospital, enabling them to purchase essential equipment, fund innovative research and treatment programs and develop world class facilities.
