Daniela Migliarese Isaac, Assistant Professor, Gastroenterology After completing her medical degree, general pediatric residency and pediatric gastroenterology subspecialty training at the University of Alberta, Issac began the Stollery – Shriners Clinical Research Fellowship focusing on the use of gastroenterologist performed bowel ultrasound in monitoring pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). She is completing a master of science in public health with a focus on health services management through the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in London, United Kingdom. Michael Khoury, Assistant Professor, Cardiology Khoury started his post-secondary education with a focus on biochemistry before studying medicine at the University of Western Ontario. During his pediatric training at the University of Toronto, he was the chief resident. Khoury went on undertake a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at the University of Toronto and the University of Alberta. He then spent a year at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital focusing in his area of interest, pediatric preventive cardiology. He has since completed further fellowship training in advanced heart failure and transplantation at both Cincinnati Children’s and the Stollery Children'sHospital. New chief residents start in MayCongratulations to incoming General Pediatric program co-chief residents Ellery Cunan and Chelsea Morin. The term for their positions is May 1, 2019 to April 30, 2020. Pediatric Research Day Department positive vibe leaves lasting impressionEileen Estrabillo began her journey in the department as a pediatric resident and then became a clinical lecturer. When Eileen Estrabillo trained as a pediatric resident at the University of Alberta, she discovered a very positive learning environment. Now, as a clinical lecturer in the Division of General and Community Pediatrics, she strives to maintain this standard. Collaborative teaching benefits pediatric learnersAlicja Wladyslawa Janicka, associate clinical professor in the Division of General and Community Pediatrics, has been teaching for the past 23 years. It takes a team to teach medical students, says Alicja Wladyslawa Janicka, who encounters learners on a regular basis at the Royal Alexandra Pediatric Ambulatory Clinic. Connecting Through Research Pediatrics awarded eight WCHRI Summer StudentshipsThe Women and Children's Health Research Institute announced the recipients of the 2019 Summer Studentship Competition. Department researchers discovered newborns sleep less if their mothers do not have a university degree. The study, published in Sleep Medicine by Piush Mandhane, Anita Kozyrskyj and her master's student Brittany Matenchuk, found other impacts to a baby's sleep. Mandhane, associate professor, and Kozyryskyj, professor, in the Division of Pediatric Respirology, Pulmonary & Asthma, analyzed data from 619 infants and their mothers.
