Symonds Street to Upper Queen Street

Works on this side are mostly complete.  The traffic lights currently on temporary drums will be moved to the new poles when the road crossing for services have been completed in this location.

Symonds Street to Liverpool Street

This week we plan to move to this side of Symonds Street to complete the new street light and traffic light installation, as well as constructing the new pram crossing.

Liverpool Street to Queen Street

Additional relocation works by utility providers of the exposed services on the corner of Queen Street are required.  Once complete, works to complete the kerbline and cycleway on this corner can be undertaken.

Upcoming works - what to expect:

  • Service diversions to take place by utility providers

Queen Street to Pitt Street

Upcoming works - what to expect:

  • Continue with kerblines for road, cycle lane and separators from mid-block pedestrian crossing towards Queen Street
  • Continue with light pole foundations
  • Continue with raingarden construction near Queen Street

Mercury Lane to West Terrace

Upcoming works - what to expect:

  • Commence the new pram crossing towards Pitt Street, and install paving and tactiles at Mercury Lane corner
  • Cutover fibre to new traffic control box at West Terrace/Day Street crossing
  • Transfer signal cables from the old traffic light cabinet to the new cabinet at West Terrace/Day Street crossing

Cobden Street to Newton Road

Upcoming works - what to expect:

  • Prepare for ducting and kerbline installation
  • Commence raingarden construction

Ponsonby Road to Hereford Street

Upcoming night works - what to expect:

From Sunday 18 October to Monday 19 September 2020 from 19:30 - 06:00:

Night work continues across Ponsonby Road intersection towards Great North Road.  This is to complete an additional layer of temporary asphalt across the intersection.  Work to hydro excavate services at the traffic light control box to finalise the ducting install at this location also continues.

This work is expected to be finalised tonight.  Please note there will be intermittent medium to high volume noise e.g. hydro excavation, trucks and diggers moving and loading heavy equipment.

A change in lane layout will be required while this work is taking place, however vehicle and footpath access will be maintained around the work.

These night works are taking place in the evening when pedestrian and vehicle volumes are lower.

Hereford Street to Overbridge

Upcoming works - what to expect:

  • Prepare raingarden for planting at the Hereford Street corner

Upcoming works - Road crossings for services

Part of the upgrade includes traffic lights, street lights and future proofing ducting, and stormwater connections across the carriageway of Karangahape Road.

These works require sections of Karangahape Road to be closed, with detours in place for vehicles. Therefore these works will be undertaken at night when traffic volumes are low. Every morning the team will reinstate the carriageway before morning traffic commences.

This work is expected to commence in the last week of October and the details will be shared in the next newsletters.
