QLDC Winter Road Report - 5 July 2023

Good morning everyone,

It's a pretty positive start to your Wednesday.

Temperatures are mostly above zero (apart from Whakatipu Basin but you're almost there!) and there are clear skies and dry roads.

If you're heading over the Crown Range you can expect a bit of wind.  Also known risk areas around Fernhill and Glenorchy Road have been gritted.

To make our daily morning rendezvous more worthwhile,  and because I'm a little nervous about what could happen in the world if we don't... I'll repeat our daily mantra:

Please take it easy out there and drive to the conditions in front of you.  Temperatures can drop around daybreak so there's always a chance of ice forming and conditions can change quickly.  Our teams will be out and about checking conditions and dealing with issues as they arise so if anything significant changes, we'll provide updates on the the QLDC facebook page.

Ok phew, the stars remain aligned.

One final thing while I have you - it's safe to say things are pretty busy out there at the moment with the Australian and NZ school holidays coinciding, particularly in Queenstown. Make sure you allow a bit of extra time for your journey and stay patient out there - it's awesome to see the area humming but it's definitely making for busier roads.

That's it from me this morning - if you spot any issues on the road today, give us a call on 03 441 0499 and let us know.

DISCLAIMER:  Road conditions during winter can change at any time. Our advice is to always carry chains, slow down and drive to the conditions. We will always do our best to give you the most up-to-date conditions for key commuter roads, but we can't drive every road in the district before 7.00am.  Remember, if it's snowing, this slows us down too and these reports should never replace common sense.
