Message from the President

Welcome to our bumper Easter holiday edition of our P&C eNewsletter.  This term has well and truly flown by and I am pinching myself that the Easter bunny will be here in just a few more sleeps!

To say it has been a productive term, would be an understatement. I am a huge fan of the African proverb 'It takes a whole village to raise a child' and I am overjoyed at the number of volunteers coming forward to assist in ways that are truly adding value to our P&C and school community.  I would like to take this oportunity to say thanks to a number of people from our village, who have committed their time and energy to make a real difference this term.

  • Tony Perrin for tackling the old school drain and undertaking work that will minimise ongoing maintenance for our school.  This work also provided the inspiration to design and launch a fab new community space in the coming year.
  • Our creative and hard working Skyline project team.  Kim Latham, Kim Batina, Tony Perrin, Kiera Bury and Lauren Truscott for your creativity and dedication to creating a community space out of a sand pit!
  • Keira Bury our fab fundraising coordinator who works tirelessly behind the scenes, researching grants, funding opportunities and coming up with many (many, many!!) opportunities to support the work of our event coordinators and committee convenors.
  • Our event coordinators who have been meeting and planning our various fundraising events for the year.  Anthony Georgeff, Amanda Ritchie, Kim Batina, Narelle Headley, Narelle Klvac, Emma Woods, Katie Smithson, Rebecca O'Brien, Penelope Hickman and Karen Wilson.
  • Our Class Reps and Class Rep Coordinator/s - Andrea Lam and Fiona Hyland for your tireless energy in getting all our details ready for the school directory and keeping us up to date with all the back to school info! Rebecca Letch our school directory editor has been doing this for a few years but with over 500 students this year, we think she deserves a medal!
  • I want to make mention of the hard working executive group who have been making improvements large and small across all areas of our P&C operations and taking on more even when there is no more time left in the day.

It is time for a well earnt break and I wish everyone a safe and relaxing school holidays.  Now its time to go and grab a cuppa or wine and settle in to catch up on all the fabulous things happening in our school.  Enjoy!

P&C Meeting Update

Didn't make it to our last meeting?  Never fear... here is a quick wrap up of all that was progressed.

  • 2014 City to Surf prize money was received and a motion passed to spend the $1730 on two new large additional shade sails for use at sporting carnivals and events to protext our kids from the sun.
  • Limestone works at the old drain has been completed.  This project will now lead into the very exciting 'Skyline Project'.  Check out more info below!
  • Annual mulching and planting of garden beds will occur in June/July in partnership with the school's sustainability program and our grounds committee and volunteers.
  • Book club received $3368 of sales from issue one, generating $673.60 for teachers and the school library to purchase resources.  Furthermore, the support of the first book fair saw families spend $7600 of which the school receive $2700 to top up school learning resources.
  • Traffic Management on Chandler Avenue was raised at the first meeting of 2015, with parents and the school unanimous in the need to address this issue. The P&C will be approaching the local council to assist with various strategies to improve the safety on this busy road.
  • Annual Movie night was a great success, with 300 tickets sold.  Many thanks to Narelle Klavc and the many volunteers who made this night so much fun for all families in attendance.

2015 Voluntary Contributions - Well on our way!

Thank you to those parents who have already paid their voluntary contrbutions.  As at our P&C meeting last Tuesday, we had received:

              -  $46, 650 (60.7%) of the voluntary contributions
              -  $30, 900 (60.3%) of the infrastructure levy

This is fabulous and has enabled the school to already purchase many of the resources on the wishlist. If you are yet to pay your contributions it is not too late!

Remember these contributions form the base funding for all the various P&C projects and teacher resource requests to support our kids.

The Skyline Project

In 2014, the FPPS P&C Association surveyed the parents to collate a ‘Wish List’ – an insight into what you, the parent body, would like the P&C to financially achieve and improve upon in 2015.  We had a fantastic response and found a common theme on many of the ideas and suggestions – to improve the school grounds.

The P&C have committed to enhancing the natural ‘hub’ of our school, building a nature scape parkland under the trees between the school oval and basketball courts.  The area will reflect our community’s sprit and its desire to meet, play and learn.  The parkland will have a distinct connection with the history of Floreat by reflecting key places of the suburb’s heritage within the landscape.  The project is called ‘The Skyline Project’.

Stage One of the project will include two Floreat icons, ‘The Quarry’ and ‘Plank Road’.  The design shown here shows an impression of what this could look like.  Future stages will include our very own ‘Skyline Theatre’!  We have so much information to share with you on the project – we are just tweaking some details as we speak.  Watch this space!!

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY

Screen Free Challenge 6-10 May

From the 6-10 May, FPPS will be participating in a whole school Screen Free Challenge to raise $10,000 to complete stage one of our historic, nature based outdoor learning and recreation area, The Skyline Project.

It's a chance to tune in to the non-digital world. For 5 days, we'll switch off the TV, digital games and social media and instead we'll read books, play outside, listen to music and enjoy uninterrupted time with family and friends. It might just be the best 5 days of the year!!  We've got hundreds of ideas to keep your itchy digits occupied. And if you can't face 5 days without the screens, we'd still love your donation.

Soon we will be sending you details of how to join in and start getting donations.  We will be using a Crowdfunding website to collect donations, a first for FPPS!

Come and celebrate with us!
We invite all of our participants and donors to join us on the school oval from 3.30pm -5.00pm on Friday 10 May for a thank you picnic. Bring a picnic, blanket and a ball, but leave your screens at home!

Whole School Quiz Night Sat 13th June

Due to popular demand, our major fundraiser this year is going to be a whole school quiz night.  The ELC have been doing such a great job of their quiz night that we agreed it would be a great idea to do the same.  So please, SAVE THE DATE for Saturday 13th June!  The theme will be 80’s Prom, so start scouring the op shops for your prom frock or even just a few fluoro accessories.

We will have a professional photographer taking Prom photos of the happy couples, complete with props for special effect.  And don’t leave early, because we will be crowning the Prom King and Prom Queen before they lead us onto the dance floor for a fab disco to complete the night!

Our Prom will be located in an amazing marquee built on the FPPS basketball courts, decked out with a licensed bar and let’s not forget the disco balls!  We will be selling TABLES of 10 (no individual tickets), so start thinking about who will be on your table because the tickets will go on sale soon, and we only have 30 tables available.

Calling for Prizes, Donations and/or Sponsorship

We have a lot of fundraising to do and are calling on our parent community to see if there are any family businesses or corporations that would be willing to donate prizes or sponsor prizes for our fundraising events.  We are looking for anything to help, from small door prizes such as wine, perfume and vouchers to major prizes such as accommodation, art, jewellery, IT or white goods.  We have a great school community with a huge variety of trades, professionals and businesses amongst us.  You may not think you have anything to offer, but you never know!  Please contact Keira Bury if you would like to help – she is very creative and will find a way!  keira.bury@gmail.com

Safety House News

KEEP OUR CHILDREN SAFE – BECOME A SAFETY HOUSE

A Safety House is a safety haven for a child, who is being bullied, being followed, lost, scared or generally feeling unsafe.

If a child sees the yellow Safety House sign on your letterbox when feeling unsafe, the child knows it is safe to knock on your front door for help.

We have recently lost some Safety Houses in Floreat and so are looking for more Safe Houses.

Your obligations?

∗ No costs / fees.

∗ No meetings to attend.

∗ Just be a caring adult willing to assist a child who knocks on your door for help.

∗ Display a yellow Safety House sign provided by Safety House WA on your letterbox.

Your eligibility?

∗ Your house has easy street access to the front door for a child.

∗ Any pet dog is usually not left to roam freely around the front of the house.

∗ A caring adult is usually (not necessarily always) home at least 3 times a week before school drop off and after school pick up.

∗ Every occupant of your house aged 14 and over consents to having a consistently monitored police check (fully paid for by Safety House WA).

If you can help, please contact Rossana on 0422116464 or rossana_panetta@hotmail.com

Anyone wishing to take advantage of the current prices can pop an order form in at the office or visit the shop before the end of term. The uniform shop is open on Wednesdays 2.45pm - 3.30pm.

We are pleased to announce that the EFTPOS facility is working most of the time (wavering signal), and we can now offer card payments.
Hope to see you soon.

Thank you to Warren Headley who kindly gave us his time recently to put together our much needed shelving in the Uniform Shop.
They look great and are now being put to good use.

CONGRATULATIONS to Archie RImmer and family, who won the PRE-ORDERS competition.
They have collected their prize of a $30.00 voucher at the Floreat Park Uniform Shop.
