Parent Support Programme for Parents of Children Age 11-16 who are on the CAMHS Waiting List

A brief summary of the project:

We are now open for new referrals for our fourth Parents Support Programme aimed at parents/carers whose children and young people are on the CAMHS treatment waiting list. The pilot project is a collaborative work between Brandon Centre and Mind in London, providing psychoeducational and broad strategies for parents whose young people experience mental health.

This is an 8-week online programme for parents whose CYP (11-16) are on the CAMHS treatment waiting list with the primary presentation of anxiety, depression, self-harm and suicidality.

Parents of CYP who have a primary presentation or are waiting for the diagnosis of autism, or ADHD, have significant learning disabilities or experience complex mental health issues and eating disorders, unfortunately, will not be suited to attend this programme at this cohort.

Parents Support Group is a safe and confidential space for parents to learn and build up the skills to help them cope with those difficult times.

Parents Support Programme combines clinical expertise, social support and local links the programme and will focus on the following:

  1. Providing psychoeducation about young people’s mental health to parents/carers
  2. Providing broad strategies and guidance to parents/carers on how to support their young person who is struggling with their mental health
  3. Reducing parental distress and improving their resilience and wellbeing so that they, in turn, are better able to support their young person while they wait for treatment
  4. Offering support through peer group interactions
  5. Offering signposting/social prescription for further support where needed
  6. Supporting parents at a time that they experience concern and distress about their child’s mental health difficulties

As the project runs across 3 main ICS regions simultaneously, we offer 3 different times so parents can choose which programs would suit them most.

2. Solutions Not Sides – Free DSL Training

For Information

Understanding Antisemitism and Islamophobia in relation to Israel-Palestine

Solutions not Sides has been operating educational workshops on the Israel-Palestine conflict in the UK for over 10 years, providing young people and communities with humanising encounters and critical thinking skills. They are specialists in addressing Antisemitism and islamophobia in relation to Israel-Palestine and educating on diverse narratives. Through their decade of working in communities across the UK, they see time and time again a complex situation of conflict, hijacked and co-opted for other agendas or simplistic and conspiratorial world-views. As well as the communities experiencing Islamophobia & Antisemitism, some of the people who suffer because of this are our young people.

This training will help you drive more informed discussion and behaviour related to this subject in your workplace or institution. The CST & Tell MAMA have recently recorded some of the highest ever levels of Antisemitism & Islamophobia, and while most of the discourse surrounding the conflict in Israel-Palestine avoids discrimination and racism, it can and does cross the line.

Barnet have been lucky enough to secure funding for a workshop to be delivered on Monday 23 January 4pm to 5.30pm. We are looking for around 30 DSL’s/school safeguarding officers to attend the online session.
