Links eNewsletter - Last Day of Term 1 Dear valued member of the PLC community, A Message From the PrincipalWhat an Outstanding Term 1Easter is very much a time of reflection and gratitude and I end the term extremely grateful for the energy our students contribute to creating such a vibrant learning community, the hard work of our staff, and the support of parents and family members. Schools are busy environments and I am grateful for the efforts put into so many wonderful events throughout the term. In particular, I would like to acknowledge and commend the students and staff involved in the production of Emilia last week. The performances were absolutely outstanding and the quality of acting beyond what I thought imaginable. The entire production was a credit to everyone involved. I am also very proud of our school, for showing courage in presenting a play that challenged and questioned gender inequality. I am more proud that this play was not chosen because of the current media, it was chosen well in advance as we were looking for a script that included strong female roles. Mr Craze and Mr Snyman definitely achieved this in their selection of Emilia. Again, thank you to everyone involved as this was absolutely a highlight of the term. World's Greatest ShavePLC once again participated in the World's Greatest Shave this year and for all the details and highlights, please enjoy this video. Parent Information SessionsIn Links a few weeks ago I did explain that we would be offering some Parent Information Sessions in Term 2 to provide more information to families about our Protective Behaviours Programme. At the moment we have set the following draft dates:
Boarders' Market Hits the MarkI would also like to acknowledge our boarding families for being at school so early this morning to set up the Boarder’s Market. Arriving at school this morning, it was a great reflection of the strength of our community. I am grateful for the efforts of all parents in providing such a positive opportunity for our community to gather on our last morning of school. Inspiring WomenOver the last few weeks, I have attended musical recitals, performances, shared in Kidpreneur in the Junior School and the Small Business Market in the Senior School, had the pleasure of Kindergarten and Pre-Primary visits for morning tea, watched our teams debating at the WADL competition, and our swimming teams compete at JIGSSA and IGSSA. There is always something happening and I am so often in awe of the effort and commitment of our students. From the students who compete or perform, to those who take on support roles to make sure events come together. Nothing would happen if it were not for the combined efforts of students, staff, and families. To every student across the school, I am grateful for your contribution to our school community throughout the term. Thank you! I wish every member of the community a Happy Easter and look forward to seeing you back at school in Term 2. - Cate Begbie – Principal That's a Wrap on Term 1What an amazing term we have completed! From lockdown and Remote Learning to restart the year, to the Outdoor Education Programme, excursions, and incursions. Not to mention Co-curricular, carnivals, concerts, and competitions, to complement our already incredible in-class programme. Term 2 Uniform ArrangementsWhen the students return to School on Tuesday 20 April, they will continue to wear their summer uniform. On cooler days, the girls have the option of wearing their jumper and blazer for warmth. We will change over to the winter uniform in Week 8, after the Mid-term Break. Uniform information can be found here. World's Greatest ShaveOn Monday, 40 Junior School students participated in the World's Greatest Shave by having their hair braided by Year 12 students. The money raised from this initiative facilitates the Leukaemia Foundation's fight against blood cancer. Thank you to all those who participated in the day. This week saw the Da Vinci Decathlon take place at UWA. 16 students from both Years 5 and 6 participated with our Year 5 team being named overall winners! This amazing Year 5 team placed highly across many disciplines including 1st in Art and Poetry and Cartography, 2nd in English and Maths, and 3rd in Ideation and Codebreaking! Our Year 6 team also performed well placing 7th overall out of 19 teams and achieved some great results including placing 2nd in Creative Producers and Ideation. Have a happy and Holy Easter and we look forward to seeing everyone back in Term 2. - Richard Wright – Head of Junior School Start of Term 2We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the Senior School campus after a well-deserved Easter break. Next term, we begin school on Tuesday 20 April with a whole school Assembly in the Hugh Baird Sports Centre. A reminder that we will continue with the summer uniform until the Mid-term Break as often the weather at this time of year can still be too warm for stockings to be worn. Netball Game PLC v CCGSAn age-old tradition saw the PLC Students Leaders swap clothes with their rivals from Christ Church Grammar School on Friday before they hit the courts for the annual netball match between the two schools. While the final score is slightly ambiguous due to some shifty score-keeping on our part, it doesn't detract from the joy felt by all at the event. For all the photos, head to the PLC Gallery. Take a Bow All Involved in EmiliaAfter three successful showings of the Senior School drama production Emilia, the students, crew, and everyone else involved in its success can take a well-earned Easter break. Congratulations to everyone on this incredible showcase of talent at PLC. Head to the PLC Gallery for all the photos captured of the performance. Da Vinci DecathlonCongratulations to all the students from Years 8, 9, and 10 who participated in this year's Da Vinci Decathlon this week. Our Year 10 girls won the English division and our Year 8s achieved 1st place for Engineering and Creative Producers, and 2nd place for Science, resulting in a placing of 2nd overall! - Miss Rebecca Watts, Head of Senior School What Happened This Week in the Boarding HouseFrom the Boarding House PrefectsThe boarders have had a great week celebrating this week. Thank you to all the boarders’ parents for organising this. We would like to wish all families a safe and happy holiday. - Boarding House Prefects Some Words From Monisha
