News: IB Sport Pilot - Out of Pilot

In October, during the IB AEM Conference in Vienna, WAoS and the IB announced the approval to move the IB Sport Pilot out of  pilot phase to steady state. What does this mean? Essentially in providing student-athletes with the option to extend the IB DP to 3 years, this is now possible without any deadlines with the assurance that schools and student-athletes who fulfil the respective criteria will be provided access.

Re-accreditation Visits

Since August 2018, the WAoS team have conducted AFEC reaccreditation visits to five schools which have included Ikast Brande Gymnasium (Denmark), Ellesmere College (UK), Amman Baccalaureate School (Jordan), Singapore Sports School (Singapore) and Trinity Grammar School (Australia). All schools continue to demonstrate  impressive efforts in providing opportunities and support to student-athletes within their respective school communities ensuring that high academic standards are maintained and athletes can also continue their commitments to their chosen sporting endeavours. Schools also showed continued improvement in communication both internally and externally.

AFEC PD, Hong Kong

In  early November 2018, WAoS held the second AFEC Professional Development workshop for accredited AFEC schools. The workshop held in Hong Kong was hosted by Hong Kong Sports Institute. Participants from 9 schools had the opportunity to participate in sessions around implementing an extended programme for IB DP students, mapping student athletic and academic workload and creating school plans as well as to tour the institute. On the final day a panel session was organised for the participants to hear from the Hong Kong Rugby Union, HKSI staff and a HKSI student-athlete.
