Special update regarding Office of the LGA President No Images? Click here Vol 3: Special Edition - Friday 8 June 2018 Dear MembersAs you may be aware, LGA President Mayor Lorraine Rosenberg resigned from her position following a special LGA Executive Committee meeting held yesterday afternoon. A special meeting of the LGA Board will be held next week to appoint a new President for the remaining four months of the current term and I wanted to provide information to all members about the relevant processes under the LGA Constitution. The resignation of a metropolitan President creates a casual vacancy in the office of the President, which can be filled by either of the two metropolitan Vice Presidents. The two current metropolitan Vice Presidents are City of Adelaide Councillor Sue Clearihan and City of Burnside Mayor David Parkin. If Cr Clearihan and Mayor Parkin both declare an interest in filling this vacancy at next week’s Board meeting, a ballot will be held by the Board to determine which of them is appointed as President. If neither of the metropolitan Vice Presidents nominate to fill this vacancy, the Board could determine to seek nominations from other Board members, and vote to appoint someone to this position for the balance of this term. The next full term of the LGA President will commence in October 2018, and nominations will open at the end of July. In accordance with the LGA’s Constitution, the next President will be appointed from a regional council. On behalf of the Secretariat, I would like to acknowledge and thank Mayor Rosenberg for her service and contributions as LGA President. We look forward to working with the next President - and all member councils - to deliver quality and value for money services and progress the priorities of the sector. Lisa Teburea
