Digging in the sand is quite easy and dune restoration can be enjoyable and rewarding. You'll be doing your bit for our native plants and animals and working with like-minded locals who care about the environment. Community groups in the Western Bay can apply for a portion of $100,000 for projects set to benefit the District. Application forms for Western Bay of Plenty District Council's 2018 Community Matching Fund are now available, with applications able to be submitted from 12 June until 12 July. The matching fund is designed to help not-for-profit community groups help themselves, by matching their contributions with an equivalent dollar value. We’ve attached a few snapshots of our campaigners using the 0 symbol - the symbol of the Act - as a bit of inspiration; we'd love to talk to you further about involving students and schools the conversation. It’s important to note that the consultation period opens on the 31st of May, and runs for six weeks. Join the Whakatane Kiwi Trust volunteer team on one of their popular Kiwi Night Walks, every Friday evening during April, May and June. Find out why Whakatāne is the Kiwi Capital of the World, hear the kiwi calling and learn about the fantastic work being done to protect our furry neighbours. These night walks are a unique experience for all ages and a perfect opportunity to see big bugs and hear our world famous kiwi calls! The walks start at 7 pm, last for two and a half hours, and include an introduction to the area and work being done to protect kiwi. A reasonable level of physical fitness is required as they will be going off the public tracks. Dunes Trail planting day, 1 July 2018Hosted by Motu Trails Cycleway Every winter, community planting days help to restore the coastal environment that the Dunes Trail passes through. Over 12,000 plants have gone in, a huge part of why the trail is looking better each year. As part of the 2018 Tauranga Moana Matariki calendar of events the Incubator Creative Hub is proud to be presenting Parewhati Taikato and Jannine Campbell - Harakeke series. These workshops are subsidised by Creative NZ's Creative Communities scheme. It's a two day intensive workshop and participants will be able to produce at least two works each.
