A Guide to Coronavirus and the Law

UCLA Law has published a sweeping collection of legal authorities governing aspects of the coronavirus pandemic, thanks to the quick work of law librarian Lynn McClelland.
The guide offers students, lawyers, academics and the public
a detailed list of local, state and federal statutes, rules or executive orders
that address government powers and oversight of the pandemic.

Prisons and the Pandemic: New Databases Highlight the Risks

Professor Sharon Dolovich and members of the Prison Law and Policy Program have created expansive resources to keep track of developments related to
COVID-19 in prisons and jails nationwide. Advocates, journalists
and others in the public can access or contribute data on how the pandemic is
impacting release policies, incarcerated people and correctional personnel
.

Trial by YouTube: UCLA Law Launches National Online Competition

Amid in-person school closures and global travel restrictions, A. Barry Cappello Program in Trial Advocacy Director Justin Bernstein has, with help from members of UCLA Law’s trial team, created online trial competitions for the nearly 10,000 law students
and undergraduates whose competitions have been cancelled.

Samuels Nominated to a Seat on the EEOC

Jocelyn Samuels, executive director of the Williams Institute on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Law and Public Policy, was nominated on March 16 to a seat on
the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the federal agency
that enforces federal laws barring workplace discrimination.
The EEOC is currently chaired by alumna Janet Dhillon ’91
.

Students Win Big at Elite Transactional Competitions

For the second straight year, students in the Lowell Milken Institute for Business Law and Policy took first place at the prestigious Interscholastic Transactional Law
Competition at Duke University School of Law. The victory followed successes
at the Pircher, Nichols & Meeks Joint Venture Challenge, where teams
including UCLA Law students finished first and third
