Click here A Note From Our PrincipalDear OLV Family, Our school has been blessed with much abundance over the years, and as we mark our 35th anniversary this year, I have to admit to being a little nostalgic thinking about how much we have grown as a school since those days way back in 1984. We are proud to announce that Mrs. Lorrie Steele has been voted "Best teacher in Shelby County" by Shelby Living magazine! Way to go Mrs. Steele! Coming October 2nd! The pledging is in full swing and there are lots of prizes being distributed to many happy children! Don't forget to to turn in pledge sheets each day to receive prizes. When making donations online, please be sure to comment as to which student/class your donation should be attributed. Tee shirts will be distributed by the homeroom teacher. Make plans to attend the closing pep rally on October 11 to see how much we collected and who won the BIG prizes! ALL proceeds go directly to OLV School! FAMILY FUN NIGHT!Our October Family Fun Night will be at Chick-fil-A, Greystone (corner of Hwy. 280 & Hwy. 119). Take the night off from cooking and support our school. Our awesome team placed 4th for fundraising in the team category for this event! "OLV Angels" On Saturday, September 21, a number of the OLV family came out to Railroad Park to show support for St. Jude's Hospital, childhood cancer research, and those in our own community who have been affected by this terrible disease. This local event raised over $110,000, breaking all records previously set! In conjunction with the state's bicentennial, our school-wide unit this year focused on all things Alabama. Students enjoyed many wonderful activities that further enriched their knowledge of our great state. We had a variety of visitors that helped to make this day a memorable and educational one. Representatives from the Wildlife Center at Oak Mountain State Park showed us and taught us about raptors indigenous to Alabama. The Alabama Sports Hall of Fame gave a great presentation about some of the famous sports figures from Alabama. Dr. Jim Day, of the University of Montevallo, shared with our students the history of coal mining in Central Alabama. We even learned the state's official dance, the Square Dance, taught to us by local square-dance experts Annie and Paul Marrs. Students also had the opportunity to explore artifacts as they learned about the "Magic City" and visited with "V", the mascot from Vulcan Park and Museum. Other activities that students participated in included a famous Alabama figures BINGO game, collaborating on a whole-school quilt modeled after the famous Gee's Bend quilts, playing a game once played by the Native Americans of our region, creating rockets to celebrate our state's role in space exploration, an interactive storytime about Alabama's bicentennial, and so much more! A great time was had by all and our students are surely now well versed in Alabama history. Congratulations to our We Want You! Help is always welcome on various committees.
