Isabelle Chapados uses her skills as a storyteller to teach pediatric medical students and residents what they need to know to excel in their careers. In her downtime when she’s not practicing as a pediatric endocrinologist, she’s writing and illustrating children’s books that focus on their health. Emergency department provides perfect setting for teaching momentsAaron Moodley transfers his vast experience as a emergency room physician to teaching learners in the department. A hospital emergency department can be a frenzied chaotic place at times and this may pose a challenging environment in which to teach pediatric residents. For Aaron Moodley, it’s the perfect setting in which to pass along knowledge. Her heart (research) is in the right placeLily Lin, a clinical lecturer in the Division of Cardiology and a master's student, is researching ways to correct leaks in the tricuspid valve. As a result of a WCHRI graduate studentship, Lily Lin can focus on researching how to manage a tricuspid valve when it leaks. Her team is planning to complete seven experiments with hopes of coming up with a definite solution. Podcast aimed at educating children about medicineDepartment of Surgery digital education program assistant Jenni Marshall (left) and medical student Natalie Marsden have produced 11 Surgery ABCs podcasts so far. A podcast follow up to the U of A's Surgery 101 is aiming for a younger audience. Surgery ABCs is a kid-friendly program aimed at getting young listeners excited about health and educating them about body parts. Abstract submissions open: Pediatric Research Day May 15The sixth annual Pediatric Research Day will take place on Wednesday, May 15, 2019. Abstract submissions and registration are open. The deadline for submissions is April 5, 2019.
