Town Hall meeting is this Friday

Connecting Through Research seminar series
General pediatric trainee Qaasim Mian presents a research project with Michael Hawkes, assistant professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases.
Solar powered oxygen is demonstrating that it is a cost-effective, reliable and lifesaving delivery system through a trial research project. Michael Hawkes, assistant professor, and Qaasim Mian, general pediatric trainee, will be taking this project to the next stages by expanding the availability and assessing the mortality benefit in children under five-years-old with suspected pneumonia. The topic was presented September 28, 2018 to kick off the Connecting Through Research seminar series this year. Connecting Through Research is a child health research seminar series directed at enhancing collaboration among graduate students, trainees and faculty in the Department of Pediatrics and affiliated partners. The seminars feature the work of trainees and faculty members, with an

Pediatric Update brings expertise to medical community

A wide range of topics from cannabis' effect on youth to the health care needs of a gender diverse population were presented at Pediatric Update September 13- 15, 2018. This is the seventh year that our department has organized and hosted the conference to offer continuing medical education for family physicians, community pediatricians, emergency physicians, residents and other health professionals who work with children. Thank you to faculty members and community partners who shared their skills to bring this event to an accredited opportunity. Protecting cardiac patients from kidney damage during surgery may prevent long-term effects

The stress of surgery can take its toll on the kidneys, regardless of a patient's age or the reason for their surgery. "Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) happens in many populations, across different types of care, in all countries," says pediatric nephrologist Catherine Morgan. Pediatric researcher finds link between obesity and household cleaners
Frequent use of household disinfectants with antimicrobial or antibacterial agents is strongly linked with a higher risk of obesity in infants, according to new U of A research.
