Curriculum Overviews The staff have almost finished compiling Curriculum Overviews for this half term; these will be sent home by the end of this week. Keep an eye on your email inbox (or for possibly scrunched paper copies at the bottom of a school bag!) to see all the fantastic things your child will be learning about this half term.
Uniform ReminderRecently there have been quite a few students coming to school in incorrect uniform, especially on PE days and with the weather growing colder. Colourful shorts, leggings and tracksuits are not part of the school uniform and should not be worn, even on PE days. Proper coats should be worn during the winter over the top of the full
school uniform, not hoodies. Please remember to ensure your child is coming to school in the correct uniform each day. Students in incorrect uniform will receive a slip from teachers which is recorded. In repeated instances a member of the team will contact home to discuss what support is needed to ensure the student is in uniform. As a reminder, the school uniform is listed below.
Full Uniform: A School 21 blazer, cardigan or V-neck jumperA School 21
tieGrey trousers or knee length grey skirtA white shirtBlack socks or black tightsSmart, completely black shoes
PE Kit:A turquoise polo shirt with the School 21 badgeBlack shorts in
summerBlack tracksuits in winterBlack socksBlack sports trainers (no converse, pumps or plimsolls)
Thank you for your support in this matter.
EvoGames Re-ScheduledDue to the school closure, the EVOGames 21.1 have been rescheduled to tomorrow, Tuesday 6th November. The programme is slightly scaled down due to the reschedule and some previously arranged events all ready happening in PE lessons instead. Previous communications have been sent home regarding the schedule for the day. The plan for the day is also included below. Please ensure your child comes to school in their full and correct PE uniform tomorrow. Parents are welcome to come along to watch the tag rugby tournaments at West Ham Park during the times indicated.
Year 8 4 Minute Mile Project UpdateThis project encourages students to push themselves, mentally and physically each week. They train to run, but also reflect to grow. The students will work towards creating a legacy this half term; in their own development but also for the school by creating a daily mile track for all of our community to
use.Every single student on this project has demonstrated a sense of true grit. They have understood not to judge themselves against others, they have shown incredible maturity in their reflection and support of each other. Mr Thomas is very proud of them all.
Everyone in recovery after a particularly gruelling sprint session!
Year 8 Market Stall Project UpdateDespite the school closure, the Year 8 Market Stall project continued with all of the small businesses cooking their cakes, cookies and samosas last Thursday. Unfortunately the original set up of the market stalls could not go ahead, however, the Year 8s' set up instead at our family movie night, selling out of
all of their products. Keep an eye out at the Exhibition of Beautiful Work in December, when the stalls will definitely be making a comeback! All Year 8 students involved modelled professionalism throughout and made a good profit which they will decide how to spend to better the school this week.
Family Film NightOn Friday last week we held our second Family Film Night, showing the epic Marvel superhero film, Black Panther. We had an excellent turn out of about 60 parents and students who came to watch and munch on popcorn together, building the bonds in our wonderful community. The night was a great success and we are planning on holding
these monthly. Each film we choose will have important themes and messages which you can explore afterwards with your children at home. See this month’s discussion suggestions below!
Celebrating Achievement in our Community! In June Aaliyah and Zayn competed in their 1st World Karate Champions which took place in Bedford. Zayn won a bronze and a gold and Aaliyah 2 bronze. Not bad for their 1st major event.
On the Friday before the closure and half term, they flew out to Ireland, not only to compete in the European Championships, but also for Aaliyah to grade for her 1st Dan Black Belt.
She was very nervous as she was the youngest out of 7 people. She passed! Phew! Saturday both Aaliyah and Zayn competed. Zayn won 2 gold medals and this time Aaliyah won 2 gold and one silver, she also sustained a black eye as her category had girls a lot older and taller than her.
It was a great weekend for their club as everyone came home with at least 2 medals each. Aaliyah and Zayn are pictured with one of their instructors. Big congratulations to them both!
If you’re a member of our Middle School community with an achievement you’d like to share in our newsletter, please email Ms Kyrk (akyrk@school21.org.uk) or Ms Mclear (smclear@school21.org.uk) with a picture and a short story explaining what you’re proud of! This could be anything at all! A sporting achievement, a piece of art or writing you’re proud of, an act of kindness, a medal or trophy - anything!
