Miami Aquatic Centre

The redeveloped Miami Aquatic Centre is now open for all the community to use and enjoy.

Established in 1976, the centre has remained relatively unchanged since its construction.

We have now delivered an $18 million contemporary, integrated aquatic centre, with the following facilities:

  • Original eight lane 50-metre outdoor pool has been transformed into multi-functional 10 lane pool with disability access ramp and partial shade coverage
  • The 50-metre pool required 420 cubic metres of concrete and will hold 2,371,000 litres of water, which took five days to fill.
  • The current 50-metre 10 lane pool will be upgraded within the next four years
  • New learn-to-swim pool and water play area
  • Reception & administration area with first aid and public amenities
  • The project employed 700 workers
  • Construction began December 2019 and has been delivered on time and on budget

Gold Coast Beach Parade

More than 950 people turned up for the GemLife Gold Coast Beach Parade at Burleigh Beach on Sunday 16 May, raising $20,500 for the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Foundation.

GemLife was the proud naming sponsor of the parade, a fun and colourful community event attended by people of all ages that celebrated Gold Coast’s famous beach culture while fundraising for Currumbin Wildlife Hospital to care for koalas and other native wildlife.

The event, which also set a record for the largest number of participants wearing koala-ear visors in beachwear while completing the three-kilometre parade route.

A wonderful initiative, Congratulations to all involved.

Storyfest Grom Tales

A fantastic morning attending Storyfest at Ed Hardy Park, Miami to present Grom Tales who partnered with Baby Give Back, Coastal Babysitters and Village Roadshow Theme Parks to provide a day of opportunities for children under 8.

✅ A  fun filled day of events and activities including an
engaging Panel Session with Megan Daley, Nadia Sunde, Louise Park and Justine Wilkinson hosted by CEO/Festival Director Andrea Lewis.
✅ Delicious cupcakes for morning tea with guest appearances from Shaun the Sheep and his sidekick Bitzer.
✅ Great presentations from Lucas Proudfoot, Nadia Sunde and Tristan Bancks attended by 150 students from local schools throughout the day.

Pizzey Park Lake Works

As part of improving bank stabilisation, reducing erosion and protection of the nearby pathway, a section on the southern end of the lake has been stabilised with aquatic vegetation. 

The area will be graded and planted out with native species such as;

• Lomandra hystrix
• Crinum peduculatum
• Finger Rush – Fimbristylis ferruginea
• Sea Rush - Juncus kraussii

These species will also benefit the local ecology of the lake.

Drinking Fountain Renewal

Parks & Recreation will be undertaking some drinking fountain renewal works.

The works is part of a city wide drinking fountain renewal and due for completion by the end of the financial year.

The drinking fountains being replaced in Division 12 as follows:

  • Pizzey Park-Ozone Parade, Miami
  • John Handley Community Complex- 24 Galeen Drive, Burleigh Waters

Pictures below shows new design drinking fountain to be installed.

Exercise Equipment Renewal Ed Hardy Park, Miami

✅ The temporary fence has been removed and this fantastic fitness area is now open for the community to use.

Take the opportunity to train outside and enjoy all the benefits of the natural environment.

Ocean Beach Tourist Park

National 2021 Caravan and Camping Industry Association
Ocean Beach Tourist Park was awarded Silver in the 2021 Review Pro People’s Choice Award

It was great to connect with the Management Team and enjoy a tour of the Ocean Beach Tourist Park, located right opposite the spectacular Miami beach.

Park accommodation options include powered sites ,as well as two bedroom cabins offering ocean views, and a three bedroom cabin that sleeps up to nine guests.

Tree Planting Mermaid Waters

Street tree planting that was funded from the Local Area Works Budget, has now been completed in both Wanderer Avenue and Wayfarer Avenue, Mermaid Waters.

54 new trees were planted between the two Mermaid Waters streets.

The plant species are predominantly native and endemic and will be cared for by our Parks and Gardens team by watering with recycled water, mulching, fertilising and pruning to ensure establishment with optimum shade and growth.
