Thrive Earlier Detection Corp., a Cambridge, Mass.-based cancer blood-testing startup, landed $257 million in Series B funding. Casdin Capital and Section 32 led the round, and were joined by Bain Capital Life Sciences, Intermountain Ventures, Janus Henderson Investors, Lux Capital, Moore Strategic Ventures, Rock Springs Capital, Sands Capital and others. Eli Casdin, chief investment officer of Casdin Capital, joined the company’s board.
Praxis Precision Medicines Inc., a Cambridge, Mass.-based startup developing therapies for brain disorders, raised a $110 million Series C1 round led by Eventide Asset Management less than three months after securing a $100 million investment. New investors Avoro Capital Advisors, Surveyor Capital, Point72, Cormorant Asset Management, Qatar Investment Authority, Irving Investors, Adage Capital Management, Verition Fund Management and Ample Plus Fund also participated in the new funding, along with existing backers Vida Ventures, Novo Holdings, Blackstone Life Sciences and OCV Partners.
Heal, a Los Angeles-based provider of doctor house calls, picked up a $100 million Series D investment led by Humana. Previous investors in Heal include Bascom Ventures, Inflection Capital, IRA Capital and RLJ Equity Partners. Humana’s Susan Diamond will join the company’s board.
Geltor, a San Leandro, Calif.-based animal-free collagen maker, closed a $91.3 million Series B round of funding. CPT Capital led the round, which included participation from WTT Investment, Cultivian Sandbox, SOSV, iSelect Fund, Blue Horizon Ventures, RIT Capital Partners, Humboldt Fund, Pegasus Tech Ventures, along with the investment arms of Gelita and Archer Daniels Midland.
Guideline, a San Mateo, Calif.-based startup offering 401(k) plans for small businesses, fetched $85 million in Series D financing. Generation Investment Management and Greyhound Capital led the round, with participation from Tiger Global Management, Felicis Ventures, Lerer Hippeau, Propel Venture Partners, Xfund and BoxGroup.
Remitly Inc., a Seattle-based mobile-first provider of remittances and financial services for immigrants, nabbed an $85 million investment, giving the company a $1.5 billion valuation. PayU led the round, which included participation from Generation Investment Management, Owl Rock Capital, Stripes, DN Capital, Top Tier, Princeville Global and Threshold Ventures.
Stack Overflow, a New York-based coding community founded in 2008, grabbed $85 million in Series E funding led by GIC. New investor Silver Lake Waterman also joined the round, along with previous backers Andreessen Horowitz, Index Ventures, Spark Capital and Union Square Ventures.
Nura Bio Inc., a South San Francisco, Calif.-based developer of drugs targeting neurological diseases, launched with $73 million in Series A funding. Column Group led the round, with participation from Samsara BioCapital and Euclidean Capital.
Tempo, a San Francisco-based home fitness system provider, scored a $60 million Series B round. Norwest Venture Partners and General Catalyst led the investment, with support from DCM, Bling Capital, SignalFire, Founders Fund and Y Combinator. Norwest’s Edward Yip and General Catalyst’s Holly Maloney will join the board.
BioTheryX Inc., a startup harnessing the power of protein modulation to treat difficult diseases, completed a $35 million Series D round. MSD Partners led the funding, with Partner and Portfolio Manager Robert Platek joining the board.
Bright Peak Therapeutics, a Swiss immune-oncology protein startup, launched with $35 million in Series A financing from Versant Ventures. The company also named Sef Kurstjens as president and chief executive. He was most recently chief medical officer at Astellas Pharma Inc.
Mountain Health Technologies, a Dallas subscription-based provider of primary care services to millennials, was seeded with a $1.5 million investment. Matchstick Ventures led the round, with Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures, Techstars Ventures, Bread and Butter Ventures and Route 66 Ventures also participating.
