The best way to prepare for an upcoming exam is to make the most of your class time today. Here are a few helpful hints: Before class: · Read over your notes from the previous lecture. · Complete the assigned readings and look over the course outline and note important points that will be discussed. · Look up definitions and terms from your reading you do not understand. During class: · Listening is more important than writing down everything you hear. Put your years of texting to good use - use abbreviations, symbols and shorthand to save time and space! · Take note of key ideas and concepts given in introductions and conclusions to topics. List for verbal cues to important information – “A good example of this is …”. · Ask questions or put question marks by points you don’t understand so you can follow up. After Class · Review your notes (it may help to read them out loud) and fill in areas that need more explanation or have question marks. · Compare your notes with a friend’s to see if you missed anything important. · Highlight or color code key words and phrases. For more great ideas on taking notes, check out tips provided by the Student Success Centre: Cornell Note-Taking Method Important Dates and DeadlinesWednesday, February 1 Last day for submission of Credit/Non-Credit course designations to the Registrar's Office.
