Lifespan Health System agreed to pay $1.04 million to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which was investigating a 2017 breach of patient data, GovInfoSecurity reports. A laptop stolen from the non-profit health-care provider contained unencrypted information about more than 20,400 individuals, including their names and medical data, HHS said.
New York-based hospital using paper records after potential security incident. Watertown, N.Y.-based Samaritan Medical Center is working to recover after shutting down computer systems to stop a potential cyber intrusion, WWNY News reports. Disruptions to patient care have been minimal, said Samaritan, which runs clinics and elder-care facilities. The company didn't provide further details about the incident.
Alcohol delivery service breached. Boston-based Drizly Inc., an online liquor and beer delivery company, said customer data was exposed in a cyberattack, TechCrunch reports, citing a letter addressed to customers. As many as 2.5 million accounts were compromised, a Drizly spokesman told the publication. Email addresses, physical locations and dates of birth are among the data involved.
