NEWSLETTER - Week commencing CONTENTS SPOTLIGHTS - AN INTERVIEW WITH TINA LING MANAGING DIRECTOR FRANCE & BENELUX AT HAYS AND OLIVIER CAMPENON PRESIDENT FRANCO BRITISH CHAMBER, SPOTLIGHTS AN INTERVIEW WITH TINA LING MANAGING DIRECTOR FRANCE & BENELUX AT HAYS AND OLIVIER CAMPENON PRESIDENT FRANCO-BRITISH CHAMBER OC: Bonjour Tina, 2017 is getting to an end: what have been the highlights for Hays this year? TL: It has been a very strong year for Hays in the world and particularly in France. It will probably be a record year for us; actually, the last 4 months have showed record breaking figures. And December will be on the same line, not just in one particular field or business line, but across the board. OC: Your business is often referred as being a key early indicator of the economic trends. Are you optimistic for the future? TL: I strongly believe that there is more confidence in the market place. People are consequently more willing to take more risks than they have been in the last few years, and not just at Hays. We are seeing signs of economic recovery in a number of job requests that are coming through, plus a double digit increase for all the KPIs we follow: jobs in, job interviews, and jobs signed. OC: France is still behind the rest of Europe in terms of its employment rate. Do you agree that one of the reasons might be the difficulty to find talented and skilled candidates that match current job offers? TL: Yes, I think that there are shortages of talent in the fields of high technology, digital space and other niche sectors. Another difficulty clients have is identifying the right person at the right time for their business. OC: With this in mind, has the recruitment process evolved in the recent years? TL: Recruitment has certainly evolved in France. What I saw occurring in the UK 15-20 years ago is only just appearing now on the French market. The CDI contract is still the most sought after for both candidates and employers, but new status like ‘auto-entrepreneur’ have brought more flexibility in line with the market trend. OC: Probably seen as the most important reform of the year in France, the new labour law is now being put in to place. Have you already experienced any impact? TL: I think that it is very positive overall. It has helped to increase people’s confidence in the OC: Both in terms of you as a company and as a citizen what have you noticed are the impacts of Brexit? TL: It is very unclear and very unsettling. As a British citizen who has been working in France for 16 years I have now had to consider applying for dual nationality. There is also
a key question on our pension scheme and on the situation when we retire. OC: In conclusion, what would you suggest companies to do to succeed their recruitment in 2018? TL: I think more and more companies are seeing the benefits of outsourcing their recruitment rather than doing it internally. They have more choice, they get more market information such as at what your competitors are offering as far as salary packages or benefits are concerned. Critically, Hays puts a human element into recruiting; shortlisting candidates and matching client and candidate needs together; in this way our service is highly customer focused.
