Huge sports weekend in the Valley![]() This weekend is a great opportunity to see some of our nation's best athletes perform right here in the Valley. The showcase kicks off today along the esplanade at Inverloch with the commencement of the Tour of Gippsland. The event will see 150 of Australia’s best cyclists pedal their way through Gippsland for the iconic Criterium Series from 19-22 October, with races in Inverloch, Sale, Bairnsdale and Traralgon. More information here. On Saturday, Gippslanders can watch and learn from some of Australia’s top female footballers when Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United face off in a pre-season W-League friendly at Latrobe Sports and Entertainment Stadium in Morwell. There's opportunity also to come down and support our local girls in the lead up to the big event. At 10.15am the under-14 girls from Falcons 2000 will take on East Gippsland United Football Club, followed by the Pathways curtain raiser game between Gippsland Football Club’s under-15 girls and the Latrobe Valley Soccer League representative girls’ squad. In addition, 22 lucky young players will act as “mascots” for the W-League, each accompanying a player onto the pitch, then at half-time the pitch will be filled with small teams from across the Latrobe Valley. The Melbourne Victory activation zone, offering a range of kids’ activities including skills development and face painting, will add to the carnival atmosphere. These events are part of the $85 million investment in sports and community infrastructure, events and support programs aimed at boosting our economy and improving employment, health, and social outcomes.
