COVID-19
The Food Security Cluster is closely monitoring the latest news on the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) and the impact on Food Security. On our website you can find information and guidance regarding the current outbreak that was first reported from Wuhan, China, on 31 December 2019.
As a result of discussions with the gFSC-SAG on 31st March 2020, based on request from gFSC members, it was decided to establish an ad hoc COVID 19 Working Group (C19-WG) within the gFSC.
The purpose of the C19WG is to strengthen the coordination of gFSC partners in their preparedness and humanitarian response to mitigate the impact of COVID 19 on the food security of all vulnerable and affected populations.
The worst Desert Locust outbreak in 25 years threatens food security across East Africa. The invasion poses an unprecedented threat to food security in the entire sub region.
In Kenya, it is the worst invasion in 70 years. The Food Security Cluster is working with WFP and FAO to monitor the situation closely.
