 18 November 2019

From mid November 2019 MPI will increase intervention on VMP containers where the container will be sent for MPI supervised devan.

What is the change

Currently MPI are completing random supervised inspections of containers from Schedule 3 countries to validate the pathways.  There will be an increase to MPI supervised inspections on containers with VMP cargo, as these containers are considered high-risk cargo.

It will also allow  MPI to monitor the offshore treatment providers and the efficacy of treatments conducted.

Who will be affected:

Importers of VMP cargo in FCL containers.

Why is MPI doing this?

November, December and January are considered high risk months where MPI may intercept live BMSB aggregations in arriving cargo/containers.

How long will the VMP supervised devan requirements be effective?

MPI will monitor  the interception rates of BMSB and may adjust intervention on VMP containers.
