No Images? Click here American College of Medical Toxicology Newsletter Annual Scientific Meeting in Review ACMT’s 14th Annual Scientific Meeting did not disappoint! Over 200 members, residents and students traveled to San Juan, Puerto Rico to attend. The 2017 ASM focused on innovations and updates in research, practice, and teaching in the field of medical toxicology. In addition to engaging sessions and speakers, the meeting featured 120 poster presentations and networking among attendees. Highlights from the ASM Satellite Sessions Epidemic of Addiction began with “How Did We Get Here?” a presentation by Andrew Kolodny, MD, which outlined the staggering increase of opioid use in last 20 years. The Zika Overview was packed with up-to-date information including diagnosis, treatment, and prevention, and included presenters who monitor Zika in Puerto Rico. ACMT Ellenhorn Award Congratulations to Ellenhorn Award recipient Ken Kulig, MD, FACMT. Dr. Kulig provided a heart-felt and thought provoking talk on his career in medical toxicology. ASM Awards, Inductions and Scholarships Congratulations to ACMT Recognition Award recipient Eric Lavonas, MD, FACMT, and Best Oral Platform Award for ASM 2016, Katherine Katzung, MD. Fourteen new FACMT members were inducted (Photo right: Laura Tormoehlen, MD, and Evan Schwarz, MD) and travel scholarships were awarded. ToxIC Snakebite Registry ACMT’s ToxIC North American Snakebite Registry (NASBR) was established in 2013. Data from the first three years of cases was presented at the ASM.
