We will be sending a welcome email out to all registered conference participants on Tuesday 3rd of July – and this will contain the latest program and session overviews, information on transport, accommodation and parking as well as a raft of helpful information to ensure you get the most out of your conference experience. We are also very excited to announce that Bronnie Macintosh from Fire and Rescue NSW will be delivering the final keynote address at the conference following her hugely successful presentation at TEDx Sydney. Grants For Volunteer Training ProjectsSurf Life Saving NSW’s volunteers put their lives on the line to patrol our beaches, saving the lives of locals, visitors and tourists. In addition to their hours spent patrolling our beaches, volunteer trainers and assessors spend an estimated 50,000 hours each year training new and current volunteers to ensure their clubs’ sustainability into the future. Japanese Victory For NSW Young GunsStrong performances from a young trio of highly talented NSW athletes helped the Australian Lifesaving Team to its 11th consecutive Sanyo Bussan Cup in Japan last weekend. Nominations for Life Membership of SLSNSWSLSNSW is inviting nominations for members to be recommended for election to Life Membership of SLSNSW. To be considered for Life Membership, a nominee must have rendered distinguished voluntary service to SLSNSW for a period of at least 20 years, with the following condition being applied; for service to be considered as distinguished, it must be sustained and of a conspicuous contribution. Nominations are to be forwarded via Branch to; CEO, Surf Life Saving NSW Successful nominations will be announced at the SLSNSW Annual General Meeting, to be held Friday, 2nd November 2018. 2018 Beach to Bush Program - Registrations Now OpenCelebrating its 25th year, school registrations for the 2018 Beach to Bush program are now open. This year, the tour will be visiting the Tamworth, Canberra, Lismore, West Wyalong, Young, Bourke and Narrabri areas from Monday 19th November - Friday 23rd November - Just in time for the school holidays! Safeguarding Children and Young PeopleSurf Life Saving is committed to the protection of children through the Safeguarding Children and Young People Program. Reporting serious concerns is one of the most important parts of the program. Just follow these simple steps and visit the SLSA website. New Education Resources Released The SLSA Guidelines for Safer Surf Clubs has been updated by a national Working Group based on member feedback. Included is an online course which is now available in the Safety and Wellbeing training library on the SLSA eLearning platform. Members can access this online training and the resources via the SLSA Members Area. Training resources have also been updated for the ARTC and SMAFA awards, and the circular is available here. Premier's Volunteer Recognition ProgramThe Premier's Volunteer Recognition Program recognises the contribution volunteers make towards our communities. Both adults and students are acknowledged under the program, with each nominee receiving a certificate recognising their individual efforts. The Premier launched the program in 2015, and since then more than 13,000 volunteers have been recognised across NSW under the program. Nominations under the Premier’s Volunteer Recognition Program for 2018 closes on 28 September 2018. To nominate a volunteer visit the Volunteering NSW website. NSW Volunteer of the Year AwardsThe NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards is an annual program run by The Centre for Volunteering to recognise the outstanding efforts of the 2 million+ volunteers in NSW, and to promote the importance of volunteering to the community. The Centre for Volunteering has made it possible to recognise your members by suppling SLSNSW with spreadsheets to nominate all your members in a bulk submission. Grants of up to $1,000 are available to support grassroots community organisations in the areas of Sydney, Illawara and the Blue Mountains. The grant can be used for reusable water bottles, water refill stations, suitable equipment and/or training. Further information on how to apply and application criteria can be found on the SLSNSW website. Variety Heart Scholarships These scholarships are designed to support children with a demonstrated talent who are living with a disability, chronic illness, geographic isolation or financial hardship, to reach the next stage of development in their talent. Scholarships of up to $5,000 are awarded and can be used to help with things like uniforms and equipment, coaching and lessons, travel and other expenses in Sport, The Arts and Education. Local Sporting ChampionsThe Local Sporting Champions program is an Australian Government initiative designed to provide financial assistance for young people aged 12-18 towards the cost of travel, accomodation, uniforms, or equipment when competing, coaching or officiating at an official national sporting organisation (NSO) endorsed State, National or International sporting championships or a School Sport Australia State or National championships.
