Top 100 Golf Courses "BiteSize" – December 2017

Season’s greetings!

Welcome to our last BiteSize of 2017 – and what a year it has been.

We close the Year of the Rooster with the release of our 2018 Chinese Top 50, the much-anticipated publication of our biennial World Top 100, and probably the most difficult to assemble ranking list of all, our Continental European Top 100. We’ve also completed an impromptu Greek refresh.

Our rankings are continually evolving thanks to input from many contributors. It’s ultimately down to feedback received from every conceivable quarter, extensive research and thousands of rounds of golf, which combine to create our rankings. We like to think we get it right most of the time, but we’ll admit we sometimes miss the mark.

We’d like to thank everyone who has helped shape our rankings, both formally and informally. If you’d like to help define our future rankings, for any country or region around the world, please do get in touch.

Top 100 Golf Courses of the World 2018

Old Town Club (pictured) is one of twelve new entries in our 2018 World Top 100. We’ve shaken this ranking list up, as we felt is was high time to shine a light on some lesser-known courses that genuinely deserve to be showcased within this elite table. Not everyone will agree with us, but we are the only ranking publication to give everyone the right to reply. Click the link, read the full story and then respond.

Top 100 Golf Courses of Continental Europe 2018

Located on Portugal’s spectacular Silver Coast, Cynthia Dye’s West Cliffs (pictured) was unveiled this summer and it’s the highest of no fewer than fifteen new entries in this diverse chart, which encompasses forty-eight different countries. There are many large leaps up the table and quite a few heavy falls. Astonishingly, only six courses remain in the same position, and four of those appear within the top six positions.

Top 50 Golf Courses of China 2018

Shanqin Bay (pictured) on the east coast of Hainan Island retains the No.1 spot in our latest Chinese Top 50. It’s hard to keep up nowadays with what’s going on in Chinese golfing circles. The days of reading the occasional press release about a new layout opening are largely gone, replaced by news of yet another course which has been shut down by the authorities.

Costa Navarino heads our new 2018 rankings for Greece

Our revised Top 5 ranking chart for Greece contains the same five courses that were listed when we last reviewed the country two years ago, though the pecking order has changed slightly. Retaining the No.1 position, The Dunes course at Costa Navarino is an epic design by headline architect Bernhard Langer, working alongside Ross McMurray of European Golf Design, and it opened for play in 2010.

Review of the Month November 2017 – Streamsong (Black)

When Streamsong opened 36 holes featuring Tom Doak's Blue layout and Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore's Red course there was little to question the design quality, which is far beyond the pedestrian level found at many Florida courses… In a brilliant move, the ownership opted to bring on board likely the only person capable of not only equaling what had already been done but also surpassing it.
