It’s Almost Summer, That Means CAMPS!

Why am I different? Why is my family different? Am I the only one?

Often kids from foster care are faced with these questions, and it can be hard to sort through the heavy emotions associated with the feeling of being different. Summer camps offer a great opportunity to see and experience families similar to their own and re-assure kids that they, too, belong.

Summer camps specifically designed for foster & adoptive families give families an opportunity to lodge together, bond and develop healthy attachment.  For kids in multi-racial families, camps will also provide opportunity to interact with other multi-racial families, learn more about their cultural heritage, as well as develop bonds and relationships with role models of their race.

How Can I Help as a Support Team Member?

You have an opportunity to make summer camp a reality for foster & adoptive families. Here are a few ideas…

  • Research. Consider the lists below.
  • Fund. Organize a fundraiser to cover camp fees or travel costs.
  • Encourage. Help a family work through any barriers.
  • Bless. Use the time when a family is gone to do household projects such as painting, dry-walling, deep cleaning etc.
