Emily’s Zoola (meaning “hangout” in Hebrew) is a large hammock where a whole cabin of campers could spend time together, talk about their days, and enjoy the beautiful view of Lake Louis. Emily’s Zoola was created by a group of longtime CBM friends – Allison Boaz, Jody Arogeti Brown, Jennifer Reingold Buczyner, Todd Fierman, Lindsey Light Kuniansky, Sarah Thompson Mishurov, and Hannah Vahaba O’Donoghue – who wanted to honor the memory of their dear friend, Emily Moore. Emily had a deep affection for Camp Barney Medintz, where she spent so many summers. From her time as a young camper and JIT creating lifelong friendships to working as a Chalutzim counselor, CBM helped define the person Emily became later in life. Emily’s friends shared, “It was important that this hangout was somewhere all of us could envision Emily enjoying. CBM held such a special place in her heart, and that love was shared with anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her kindness and amazing spirit. As Emily put it, ‘The person I am at camp is the person I want to be every day of my life.’ Through Emily’s Zoola, her memory and spirit will live on, and the entire CBM community will enjoy it for years to come.” We’re counting down the days until next summer.
