Grantee Spotlight: Research that Takes Guts

Two Wisconsin Partnership Program-funded projects, the Survey of the Health of Wisconsin (SHOW) and the War on Antibiotic Resistance, were recently featured in articles in the Wisconsin State Journal and Quarterly Magazine. The articles cover their research on bacteria in the human gut – the microbiome – and the role it plays in disease and antibiotic resistance. New this year, as part of the study, 600 participants are providing stool samples to help researchers understand how diet relates to antibiotic resistance.

Wisconsin Partnership Grantee Recognized for Efforts to Improve Health Care for Amish Families

Congratulations to Wisconsin Partnership Program grantee Dr. Christine Seroogy and colleagues who were recently recognized for their efforts to improve the health of Amish families in Wisconsin. As a population, the Amish and Old Order Mennonite, collectively called Plain communities, have an increased frequency of inherited genetic diseases. Dr. Seroogy and her partners received a UW-Madison Community-University Partnership Award in recognition of their work on the Wisconsin Plain Community Project, which aims to improve access to culturally sensitive, high-quality, affordable care for Plain families. We are proud to have supported Dr. Seroogy’s work in the Plain community since 2013. Read more about the awards
