In this issue, we focus on ways in which our Center participates in the fight against cancer. We highlight our community involvement in events such as the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, as well as our participation in clinical studies to further cancer research.
In the spirit of combatting cancer, the July newsletter features the story of JJ and the role proton therapy has played in his battle against a brain tumor. We also introduce you to John Bono, one of our radiation therapy supervisors here at the Center.
Science & Medicine
Randomized Clinical Trial for Prostate Cancer
Our Center is participating in a randomized clinical trial that will compare Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) to Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) for low or intermediate risk prostate cancer.
Supporting the Community in the Fight Against Cancer
SCCA Proton Therapy Center participates in community outreach events such as the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life and Run of Hope. They also host their own patient support activities.
John Bovitz, or JJ, was diagnosed with a continued growth at the site of a previous tumor. While surgery was not an option, he was able to receive treatment with proton therapy.
John Bono is a radiation therapy supervisor from Boston with years of radiation therapy experience. He moved here for the opportunity to work at SCCA Proton Therapy and loves both Seattle and the Center.
