Click here Friday 27 April 2018 SLSNSW State Conference 28 - 29 July 2018Surf Life Saving NSW is excited to announce that registrations are open for the 2018 State Conference! This will be held in Sydney on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 July 2018 at the Novotel Brighton Beach, Brighton-Le-Sands. The conference will be centred around communicating SLSNSW's strategic direction for 2018-20, and will cover topics such as safeguarding children, mental health, critical incident support, community engagement, leadership and culture, recruitment and retention, communication and inclusion. The conference is aimed at those holding key roles in Surf Life Saving Clubs, including Club Presidents, Club Captains, Member Services Officers, Chief Training Officers, Volunteer Coordinators, Junior Activity Chairpersons, Member Protection Information Officers and/or members who are emerging leaders within the Club. Please confirm your attendance at this conference with your club prior to submitting your online registration or making any travel arrangements or bookings. Clubs will be able to request additional spaces at the conference (in addition to the three fully subsidised places per club) by contacting Tiffany Chapman, tchapman@surflifesaving.com.au. A frequently asked questions (FAQ’s) document for the conference is also available to assist with logistical information for attendees. Surf Lifesavers To Bid Adieu To Season 2017/18The year of the never-ending summer finally draws to a close this weekend as volunteer surf lifesavers across the state prepare to pull on their red and yellow uniforms for their final patrol of the season from tomorrow. Man Drowns In Kurnell Boating AccidentDespite the best efforts of emergency services, a man has been unable to be revived after an incident at Kurnell in Sydney’s south on Wednesday. Surf Lifesavers Remember AnzacsThe association between the Surf Life Saving movement and the military began in its infancy, and on Wednesday thousands of club members paused to remember the sacrifice and contribution that these lifesavers made to the Australian way of life. Tathra AppealSurf Life Saving NSW is proud to stand alongside and support the Tathra community as they work to recover and rebuild after the devastating bushfires that swept through the area in March. As they now move into the rebuild phase, we have launched an appeal to provide much needed relief to the communities impacted. The total sum donated will be forwarded to the Mayoral Appeal Fund where the management and distribution of these funds will be overseen by an independent Advisory Panel chaired by the Mayor Cr, Kirsty McBain. All donations are greatly appreciated and can be made here. AIDR Emergency Management Volunteer ScholarshipOn behalf of the Federal Government the Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience (AIDR) is offering the AIDR Emergency Management Volunteer Scholarship Rd 3, which is now open and closes on 14 May 2018. The million dollar scholarship fund has been established to recognise the complex service delivered by volunteers and the high-level skills and leadership required to respond to emergency situations. Funding is available for the reimbursement of education and training costs for volunteers in an emergency management agency that wish to undertake studies in accredited units or courses in emergency and disaster management vocational training and education, and higher education.
