Fixing Our Broken Food System: Plan Envisions Robust Local Food Economy

Stakeholders in farming and food sectors set priorities, goals and action plans to strengthen our northern NJ food system.

Garden State Loses Ground in its Commitment to Local Food

Fighting Food Waste On The Farm

Our LocalShare program connects farms and food pantries so that crops left after the harvest-–food that usually goes to waste–-feed hungry families instead. Last year, we delivered 34,000 lbs to those in need!

E & R Mathez Farm Is River-Friendly

The E & R Mathez Farm in Columbia is the latest northwestern NJ farm to earn the River-Friendly Certification for protecting water quality. Nestled alongside the Paulins Kill,  the farm uses best practices to manage soil loss, pesticides, nutrients, conservation buffers, and irrigation.

Share Your Surplus with Those in Need

When your home garden or chickens are gifting you with more zucchini or eggs than you can possibly eat, drop them at the LocalShare It! Basket at the Blairstown Farmers' Market. At the end of the market, it will all be delivered  to local food pantries to feed those in need.

We hope you are finding "News from the Field," our new eNewsletter, interesting and meaningful. We plan to use this monthly missive to keep you informed on what's going on in our northern NJ foodshed and on the work of the Foodshed Alliance.

We would love your feedback and to hear your questions and concerns on the challenges of strengthening our local food system to become one that is green, fair, nutritious and affordable to all!
