New wave pop artist, So Much Light (aka Damien Verrett), has released a new track entitled “Waiting for the Moment” featuring Geographer’s Mike Deni – listen to it HERE.
Verrett describes the process of working with Deni as “fluid” stating, “it wasn't until we began to write the lyrics that I fully appreciated the harmony of our ideas and lifestyles. I look up to Mike and his achievements as a musician, so it was validating to see some of my own thoughts regarding mindfulness reflected in his personal philosophy..” adding, “To me, this collaboration really exemplified the ‘mind-meld’ you strive for when working with another artist.”
Deni describes the song as being about “prioritizing a potential future over the present moment. Damien and I are both living for our dreams, and you have to make a great many sacrifices to carve out a place in your life for a crazy dream like being a musician. And I think that was just on both of our minds when we came in to write together. We didn't talk about it until it had happened, when we looked at the words and said, ‘oh, this is a song about being scared to live in the present, and the frustrations of loving someone who lives in the future’”
In continued support of his 2017 debut album Oh, Yuck, So Much Light will be going on tour with Geographer. The album puts traditional R&B tropes in a funhouse mirror and warps the genre’s bravado into a parody of itself. Much of Oh, Yuck was written and recorded in the suburban home of Verrett’s parents. The rest was co-produced, engineered and mixed by Jason Cupp (American Football, Maps & Atlases) in Omaha, NE and Brooklyn, NY.
