Unity Research School Newsletter

Issue #3

Spring Term 2019

Welcome

Welcome to the April edition of the Unity Research School newsletter. It has been a busy month with many exciting training events providing the opportunity to work with new schools and colleagues. Our Leading Learning, Improving Literacy at KS2/3, Improving Mathematics at KS2/3 are all in progress bringing teachers and leaders from all phases together to become more familiar with the evidence and consider how to translate it in to practice. We are also delighted that our collaboration with the team at UCL Centre for Inclusive Education on the SWERL (Supporting Wellbeing and Emotional Resilience in Learning) Programme continues to embed in schools across the region.

LATEST EEF GUIDANCE REPORT PUBLISHED

Using Digital Technology to Improve Learning reviews the best available evidence to offer schools four recommendations of how technology can improve teaching and learning.

An overarching recommendation is that technology itself is unlikely to improve young people’s learning, but the pedagogy behind it can. The report – which is free to download from the EEF’s website – also includes guidance on tailoring school communications to encourage parental engagement and offering more intensive support where needed.

ENGAGING WITH EVIDENCE

The IEE have published a new Engaging with Evidence guide, designed to help practitioners identify the types of evidence, look for evidence that is appropriate for different types of questions, and begin to weigh the trustworthiness of evidence sources.
