Week of October 16, 2017 1. Parent Power One of the most popular break-out sessions at this year's Funder Huddle was Parents as Strong Consumers and Advocates for Their Children — A Smart Investment for Ensuring Better Outcomes for Vulnerable Children. The conversation lifted up new and existing efforts to equip and mobilize parents to be the strongest allies in our early school success agenda. We followed up that session just last week with a webinar, ESSA: What Every Parent Should Know, hosted in partnership with United Parent Leader Action Network. The webinar was for parents and parent leaders and focused on the important role that they can play in their state and local district. Session Panelists: Session Documentation 2. Opportunities and Possibilities in ESSA GLR advisors and leading policy experts shared key insights in how to use the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) as a key policy lever in your state by helping to ensure the inclusion of key GLR priorities, such as early learning, early literacy, chronic absence and parent engagement, in ESSA state plans. Many states have submitted their plans, but the need for strategic involvement from key members of the community remains. •
