Every quarter, we organise the MINDSET Fun Day. It is not just a day out for MINDSET representatives to interact with persons-in-recovery, it also provides caregivers with a rest day from their daily routines.
On 21 September, 35 clients and staff from the Institute of Mental Health visited the National Museum of Singapore, accompanied by 8 JAs, to learn about the Singapore’s history. An ice-breaker was conducted for the attendees to know each other better before they embarked on a journey to explore Singapore from when it was first founded in 1819 to the modern Singapore we know today. Many clients also recollected their memories through the exhibits, and were awed by the various installations.
For the Q4 Fun Day, clients and staff from Clarity Singapore alongside MINDSET representatives visited Gardens by the Bay on 4 December. The group of 29 kicked off with an activity where participants sketched a flora/fauna that they hoped to see in the gardens. This was followed by a tour of both the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest, led by JAs. Attendees also soaked in the Christmas spirit as the garden was decked out in festive decorations to mimic a Christmas Wonderland.
Congratulations to Kelly Eng Kee and Sophia Mikulits as well as Tiew Yoon Li for being Jardine Ambassadors of Q3 and Q4! In addition to fulfilling their daily job responsibilities, our JAs never hesitate to go the extra mile to demonstrate their commitment to MINDSET.
Kelly (2nd row, first from right) with fellow JAs at The MINDSET Challenge & Carnival 2018
Kelly was initially hesitant when she first took on the role of a JA. However, her experience changed her perception towards mental health issues and reinforced the importance of giving back to the community. While it may be challenging to juggle between work and MINDSET commitments, she feels content to be able to help those in need.
Yoon Li (front row, first from left) with fellow Social Enterprise JAs and mentors
Yoon Li was motivated to be a JA when she found out about MINDSET and how it contributes back to the society. Her journey thus far has taught her to be more patient and understanding in all aspects of her life. The MINDSET experience also allowed her to forge new friendships beyond her personal circle.
Sophia, participating in the Fun Run at The MINDSET Challenge & Carnival 2019
Sophia has been interested in mental health for a long time and felt that the importance of mental health is one that many do not pay enough attention to. Despite times when she felt exhausted and drained, she was fueled with the strength to push on further by the joy and fulfilment from mental health clients she has supported.
