No lives were lost however the fire resulted in the total loss of the AKM factory at Nobeoka City in Japan. Many industries have been affected by this incident to some extent and there will be high demand placed on alternative suppliers for the foreseeable future. Icom’s strengths lie in innovation, engineering, development, and high-quality manufacturing. All Icom transceivers are still proudly manufactured in Japan by Icom; no outsourcing or partnering with factories in lower-cost countries. Icom engineers have already redesigned many key transceivers to allow for alternative, high-quality components (integrated circuits) ensuring minimal interruption to production. Alternative components cannot be sourced for the products listed below: Product IC-450 IC-A16 Status Sales suspended immediately. Orders currently on backorder will be fulfilled before April 21. Plans to introduce successor to IC-450 in 2021 Supply estimated until April.
