Good day. The cybersecurity industry’s annual summer retreat to the Nevada desert is in full swing, as the Black Hat USA conference runs all week in Las Vegas. We’re not on the ground this year, but the litany of announcements coming out of the Mandalay Bay is as varied as it is voluminous.
Just kidding, almost every announcement is about artificial intelligence. Remember that actual plague of locusts during Black Hat in 2019? It's like that, but with AI agents.
A couple of notable news bits have emerged from the 104-degree heat in Sin City, though. Jen Easterly, the former director of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, has joined managed service provider Huntress after a rocky few weeks that saw her job offer at West Point rescinded. Security firm Coalfire launched a new red-team unit, featuring Charles Henderson, formerly of International Business Machines’ X-Force, Neil “Grifter” Wyler, and Bart Stump, who both run Black Hat’s security operations center.
What’s going on this year that we should know about? Email me. I have keyword filters for “agentic” set up.
