Rotoiti Rotomā Wastewater Treatment Project

Frances Teinakore-Curtis and Ngawhakawairangi Whata will present at Komiti Māori, the Ngāti Rongomai perspective of the Rotoiti Rotomā Wastewater Treatment Project

The water quality of the Rotorua lakes (Rotorua, New Zealand) including Lakes Rotomā and Rotoiti has seen significant deterioration over several decades for a variety of reasons, including leaching of nutrients through failed or overloaded disposal fields from lakeside communities.

Te Arawa Taiohi Toa - Hau Mai Te Ora

Harina Rupapera will present at Komiti Māori on her program Hau Mai te Ora.  Of Ngati Whakaue and Ngati Rangitihi decent Harina is the founder and director of Te Anga Raiona Limited. Her company runs a youth initiative called Te Arawa Taiohi Toa, based on the health model 'Hau Mai Te Ora' .

Te Arawa Taiohi Toa was launched on January 22, 2019. The three-day 'wananga rangatahi' focused on empowering and enhancing self-awareness with Matauranga Maori, Korero Tuku Iho and Whakapapa. The wānanga  focused on the participants' connection within the Taiao and our Atua Maori(Environment) and how we can better practice kaitiakitanga.

What do you think?  He aha ō whakaaro?

Bay of Plenty Regional Council is consulting on its Annual Plan for 2019/20 until May 6. Visit our website for more information, including a rates calculator that allows you to see the impact of the different options on your rates.

Most of the work we’re doing in the 2019/20 financial year is set out in our Long Term Plan 2018-2028, however, we are proposing to seek your feedback on three initiatives that weren’t included in the plan.

  • Climate change – where should our focus be when it comes to action on climate change.
  • Safety and rescue services – how should we support charities that provide regional safety and rescue services.
  • Passenger transport – a proposal to trial improved tertiary and commuter bus services funded through targeted rates; and a proposal to trial fare-free bus services for school students in Tauranga to help relieve traffic congestion, replacing fare revenue with targeted rates.

All information, including what events we are attending and how to make a submission is at www.boprc.govt.nz/annualplan.

Tarimano Kohanga Reo - a wee story

Tarimano Kohanga Reo sent through a quick thank you to show Komiti Māori and BOPRC the amazing gift you gave to their tamariki when they received the Hawera Vercoe grant for their Kohanga upgrade. The Mara Kai at Tarimano has been pumping out the veggies all summer and the kids have been cooking their own lunches and the learning around it have been invaluable.

One particular highlight was the kids were able to harvest a beautiful basket of tomato and take them over to our Wharekai next door as a koha for the tangihanga. This wouldn’t have been possible without the koha from this fund.  Tarimano Kohanga Reo wanted to share how beautiful this gift has been for us and will continue to keep on giving.

The next Komiti Maori will be held at Wairuru Marae, 9860 State Highway 35, Raukōkore, Waihau Bay.

Ngā mihi nui ki a kōutou
